■ the County’ Health Nurse, in 'Response'
to .a request of members otTFie Health
I Boafd, in order that the general pub-
lic may understand more fully the
I work the nurse is . accomplishing in
i San Patric;o county. The letter .was
J written several weeks ago. arid dur-
1 ing that time, much more work of a
! similar nature to that mentioned in
! tue letter has been done by Miss
; Ovdrton: ■
Senior Scouts Marjorie Martin and |
Maymie. Irene Sawyer spent Monday |
at. tl’.e home mi their Captain, Mrs. j
Emma Vawter, Where they prepared]
and served breakfast, luncheon and!
dinner. The girls had previously]
planned the menu for their meals and j
hail -done the purchasing.
The girls had .as their guest for''
breakfast, Mrs. Vawter, at
they served
meal

dainty three-course «
This was served with Marjorie *
arid Maymie acting as hostesses- with-. <
out the aid of a waitress. <
For luncheon the girls served two- ]
courses. Marjorie acted as hostess *
and Maymie Irene, as waitress. Mr. <
and Mrs. Vawter werq, guests at this I j
meal. : : • • • -- . ■ * i1
At six o’clock the girls served a!;
three-course dinner with pretty ap- ■
pointtnents in keeping with the holi-
day season. Maymie Irene acted as '
hostess arid Marjorie acted as wait
ress. The guests were Senior Scouts
Margaret Smith, Minnie Williams,
Ethel McCammon and Mrs. Vawter.
The menu was as follows:
7 Breakfast
Grapefruit, cream of wheat, cream,
poached, coddled and boiled eggs on
toast, tea, coffee, chocolate.
. - Lunch- - , ., - _
Cold slaw, roast pork, creamed po- j
tatoes. -brown gravy, boiled cabbage,
ricev’pricldirig, wafers, hot; chocolate. ■
V T Dinner
Fruit cot ktail, stew, wafers, potato i
croquettes, .hot chocolate, strawberry j
jello. wafers.
Among the important things accom-
plished in. this work by the girls was
the learning of different cuts of meat
and the best way to cook them, the
• cooking of vegetables in different
ways, the laying of the,, table and use
of different pieces of silver for differ
ent courses, the way to serve with a

waitress and without one.
The girls acquitted themselves with
much credit and their Captain and
other sister Scouts are indeed proud
of them.
I Since my work in your county ,
! seems so little understood by many
j people of the county, perhaps I could
i best explain it to you bv telling you
] some of the things I have been doing
I since I came to your courtly—a strang-
er three months ago.
I. have made 272 business visits in
the interest of health work. I have
made 12 home visits to babies under
one year of *age. I have held five
'Baby Conferences, with, 120 babies in
: attendance. Have had 15 conferences
with mid-wives and have sent in 24
! names for pre-natal letters to the
! State Board of Health, and have made
j 47 home, visits.
j Have given four lectures and dem-
t onstrations to a class of twenty ladies
j in .Home Hygiene and Care of Sick,
and made ten group talks,
i] I assisted at a school clinic, where
; 224 children were examined by local
] ] doctors and dentists, who found 163
of thqm defective, and 86 of them
more man ten per cent underweight.
I have sent 163 notes to parents, tell-
ing them the results of the doctors’
and dentists’ work and asking their
| co-operation in- having corrections
I made. ' ,
