W. J. Bell, city editor of the Madill
Record, once a well-known citizen of
Grayson county, is here assisting in
placing the Marshall county exhibit
at the R. R. V. Fair.
City Manager EUingson said yester-
day that if the people want to keep
the malarial mosquito out of their
homes they must use sixteen mesh
wire, for this insect goes through
anything that is coarser than sixteen.
Most of the houses here, said Mr. El-
ilingson, are screened with twelve mesh
wire and the malarial mosquito goes
through that.
Company D of the Third Infantry
will come over from Denison in a
special interurban car Monday morn-
ing and will spend the day here and
give an exhibition drill. The hour for
this will be 2:30 in the afternoon and
the place the Randolph lot on South
Travis. The drill will be given in
close and extended formation and the
latest maneuvers taught in modern
warfare will be given, that is, some
of them. It will not be possible to
give all of them. All who witness
the drill will be pleased and inter-
ested.
One of the interesting items of the
exhibit by the City of Sherman at the
Fair is a testing machine for water-
meters. Of 62 tested by this machine
it was found that only seventeen were
correst, the other 45 all being short,
the customer getting the benefit of
the short measure. One of the meters
tested only 57 per cent showing a
shortage of 43 per cent. The greater
portion tested from 86 to 98 per cent.
This should be interesting to those
consumers who elaim they do not use
as much water as they find charged

Here are some interesting figures
compiled by City Manager EUingson
for water consumers. He has found
that a leak in the water pipe that is
one thirty-second of an inch in dia-
meter will waste 9800 gallons of wat-
er per month, or an increase of $4.90
in the bill. One one-sixteenth of an
inch means 16,416 gallons, an increase
in the bill of $8.20. One-eigth of an
inch means a loss of 60,480 gallons
and an increase of $30.24, and if you
have a quarter inch leak it means 216,-
000 gallons per month, with the bill
footing up $108. This shows that it
pays to keep your plumbing in order. I
