TAFFETA COAT WITH DEEP SHOULDER YOKE.
The dressy lightweight wrap ia &
necessity for the small girl, not only as
a matter of wtyle, hut of comfort.
Splendid models are made up for spring
and summer, taffeta being used prin-
cipally for the purpooe. This little
model requires 2 yards of 44-lnch silk
or IH yard* of S3-inch taffeta. Blue
Is the prevailing color, and it look* ex-
ceptionally .wed with white collar and
cuffs of lace or embroidered batiste.
The ooat may be held in with elmu-
iatc-d pleat* through which a heavy
*Uk cord Is laced, or it may he belted
with a straight girdle of seif-material.
There i* a kboulder yoke to wi tch the
skin is attached and with which the
foil length, two-piece sleeves are in-
corporated. If 36-inch silk is used, it
will be necegsary to cut the pattern
from an open width of material, or else
so piece it that when the silk Is folded
Hie seam will not bo conspicuous. The
new silks come so wide, however, Hint
tt is not difficult to arrange them to the
advantage of the home dressmaker.
The back yoke, th* back, the collar
and belt <if a cord ft not used) ere laid
on a lengthwise fotd of the silk. The
front yoke ft arranged on the silk just
to the. left of the back yoke, and al-
though very near the edge of the fold,
if Die line ft to be preserved.'-tt must
he laid on a lengthwise thread of taffe-
ta. The cuff and front are also laid rf
a lengthwise thread, the cuff opposite
the hack and the front to the right of
back. oppoH-ie the collar.
Correct style in » **ttte coat It ft
made of blue ttflpto and Pelted With a
heavy silk cord.
It is quite right that the

the high seas, but if we are going
to pul! the chestnuts of dishonest
American shippers out of the fire

IJanlel G. Held, head of the
group of men who took over jhe
Hock Island system fourteen years
ago, says that a mas who is capa-
ble of hianagtok a railroad SOOO
miles long is not only entitled to a
sahfry of $125,000 a year, but is
eintitled to a million if he can get
It. \\ hat the railroads need, says
he, is higher freight fates and less
legislation. We presume by that
he means legislation that will per-
mit the railroads to make rates
thai will enable the railroads to pay
salaries of a million dollars a year
to the higher-up*. If the man who
has the ability to handle eight; thous-
and nil lea of railroad la worth a ail-
lion dollars a year, what is the
worth of a man who can manage
the affairs of this entire govern-
ment? So far we pay our Nalional
president $50,000 a year. It is jtist
possible that Mr. Reid is mistaken
about thy value of a railroad presi-
dent'^ services.—Bonham News.
It rt an anomalous condition as
well as a weak spot to th'1 law that
is presented By the refusal of Judge
McCormick lo resign from the Fed
oral cireiift on full pay, despite his
ability from (toyslea! disability to
discharge his duties. HI acts In
the premises, or rather his failure
and refusal to retire, has made it
necessary for congress to pass a
special art authorizing the appoint-
ment of-an additional judge to the
circuit to attend to the business
Imperatively demanding attention.
It cram* to us that a bill authorizing
the president to remove an officer
under stub state of facts would have
|Mrft the easiest and mpst feasible
method of disposing of nn unpleas-
ant situation.—Denison Herald.
