Sherman is on the eve of a build-
ing boom of a most substantial nature.
Already a number of handsome resi-
dences are in course of erection. A
new high school building Is one of the
certainties of the near fntnre. A mod-
ern disposal plant will be built at
once. The sewerage system will be ex-
tended. Nearly two hundred more
street lights will be put up. The water
mains will be extended, more deep
wells bored and an overground reser-
voir will be built. Isn't all of this
good news to write to your friends liv-
ing elsewhere and tell them about?
Tell them that Sherman Is a good City
to which to live and rear and educate
their children. Any man Who Is hunt-
ing a |cicattt>n for a home can do no
better than to come to Sherman

A coat of white serge made without
a lining and trimmed with a bit of
black moire about the waist and neck
is a very smart outer garment for
young ladies of fashion. The model
pictured today has one-piece raglan
sleeves, made with turn UaCk Ctiffh.
The front of the coat closes to tho
neck, though the fronts may be turn-,
ed back to form rcVers. The belt is
slipped through the underarm seam
and lapped at the front.' ' Wing poc-
kets are added to the front decora-
tion of the epat, but these may be
tucked inward, if desired.
In medium size the coat requires
3(4 yards 54 inch serge, with % yard
silk for tho trimming. Although the
importance of studying the guide has
been frequently emphasized, foere are
home dressmakers who overlook this
step in their anxiety to finish a gar-
ment and, unless they have had wide
experience in sewing, the result rerely
fails to proVe disastrous. But littlo
time is required to study the guide
carefully. Npto how the cuff and poc
ket ate placed into position first, each

with the underfacing next. The col-
lar and belt, in fact, are the only Sec-
tions of the pattern that are laid on a
lengthwise fold of the material.
The front, sleeve and back are plac-
ed on a lengthwise thread of the serge.

When Tripoli Tried to Wring Tributi
From Our New Republic,
The first foreign war In which the
United States was engaged began to
1801, when Tripoli towed a declaration
of war against the new world republic.
The ruler of. the piratical African
state had leanJCd that the United States
had paid larger sums to Algiers than to
himself and demanded a greater annual
tribute. This was refused, and on June
10,1801, he declared war.
An American squadron under Com-
modore Richard Dale was dispatched
to the Mediterranean and was followed
by squadrons commanded by Commo-
dore Morris and Commodore Preble.
The war continued until 1805 pnd was
characterized by several feats of valor
performed by American sailors. The

rulers, who had long preyed upon the
