Shannon Stars
As Wharton
Takes Brahmas
Shannon took charge of the
Wharton offense Friday night and
the Tigers took Rosenberg's meas
ure, 12 to 0, in a District 30-A
game.
Shannon made a beautiful 50-
yard run in the second quarter for
the first touchdown. Two passes by
Shannon in the same period netted
40 yards to the four-yard line,
where he plunged over for the sec-
ond score.
In addition to Shannon, Kleas and
Goode played well for Wharton,
while Dcdek, Meyer, and Cowart
stood out for Rosenberg.

Heavy Bay City
Team Bows To
Speedy Richmond
Outmaneuvered and outplayed, a
heavy Bay City High School eleven
bowed to lighter but speedier Rich-
mond, 14 to 6, Friday night. Only
a few hundred chilled fans saw the
District 30-A tilt.
Sparked by Daily, one of the
greatest backs in loop history, the
Tigers showed they weren't spoof-
ing this Hallowe'en night when they
stalled a Bay City drive on their
own 2.
It took only a couple of plays to
place the ball completely across the
field on the Bay City 4-yard line.
From there, Daily drove over for
the touchdown. His kick for the ex-
tra point was good.
The Driscollmen’s tally came in
the second quarter when Earl John. I place in loop rating, behind High-
son, scintillating end, raced 38 yards land Park and Denton, with a .667
to pay dirt. He dazzled the Rich-1 percentage,
mond defense with his twinkling
toes, and made Bay City fans won-
der why he isn’t used as a regular
back instead of just on end-around
plays.
Hurta went over from the 1-yard
tine for the final Richmond score
ind Daily’s kick was good.
For Buy City, Earl Johnson and
Randy Cox looked best on offense,
while Mac Johnson had a fine punt
mg average. Dickey Carter appeal-
ed plenty speedy during the few
minutes he was in the tilt.
The Bay City boys were erratic
on defense resorting at times
high tackles instead of shoe-string-
ing their opponents. Also the Bay
City blocking was weak except for
the fine work in this department
contributed by Cox, who reminded
tans of Harrison Stafford, the
blocking genius, on several occa
sions.
Cox also loked very good catch
ing long passes thrown by Carroll
In addition to Daily, Horak, and
Hurta, three stars in Richmond’s
famous backfield, Duty and Har.
rington played well in the line.
Bay City made nine first downs
and Ed Cherry’s Tigers sixteen.

District Title
The powerful Boling Bulldogs ran
up against unexpected stiff resist-
ance in Eagle Lake Friday night
but won, 14 to 0. All of the points
I were tallied in the last five minutes
by Campos, outstanding Bulldog
back.
Coach Hintons’ Eagles had the
best of the going in the first half,
making seven first downs to four
for Boling. Boling, however, wound
up with a 14 to 7 edge in this de-
partment.
The Hintonmen got as far as the
Boling 16 in the second quarter but
were held by the scrappy Bulldog
line.
Campos, Ganske, and Northeutt
were outstanding for Boling, while
Petrosky, Ham, Barnett, and Wes-
ley Causey stood out for Eagle
Lake.
With Canion, Harland, Newberry,
and Glass on the rampage, the Vic-
toria Stingarces swamped Refugio,
33 to 0 Friday night.
