of Chapter 1 of Title XXV of I
Criminal Ordinance* of the City
Sherman. Providing for the Better
Prevention of Obstructing Side-
walks, Alleys, Streets and High
ways of the City, and Providing
Penalty.
Be it Ordained by the City Commis-
sion of the City <>f Sherman :
That Article 214 of Chapter 1
Title XX V of the Revised Criminal
Ordinances of the City of Sherman,
which reads as follows:
“It shgil lie unlawful for any per-
sou or iiersoiis In tills city t0 obstruct
any walk, street or alley in any man-
ner either by fencing, tying animals
of any kind therein or across same or
by placing or leaving any kind of di-
straction therein or by congregating In
such nuntliers therein as to prevent
fine passage along and mi same. Amt
any person violating this ordinance
shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor, and upon conviction thereof
shall lie fined In any sum not more
than twenty five dollars; provided
that nothing in this ordinance shall
prevent persons from placing package*
of goods which they may be receiving
or shipping on any sidewalk if same
shall not occupy more than four feet
of said sidewalk, and shall not remain
there more than two hours; provided
further .that a space not more than
eighteen inches wide of the sidewalk
next to the house may lie used bv tjie
adjoining proprietor for the display if
his goods, wares and merchandise,
except barbed wire, during business
hours.” ■
Shall tie and the same is hereby
amended so that It shall hereafter
read as follows:
It shall be unlawful for any person
or persons, acting either for them-
selves or as the agents or employee of
another, to obstruct any walk, al-
ley, street or highway of the City of
Sherman in any manner, by means of
any fence, by tying any animals
of any kind thereon or across the
same, by placing or leaving any vehicle
or machine or any animate or inani-
mate objects thereon which is suffici-
ent to Interfere with the travel of
pedestrians or persons on horseback or
In vehicles, or by congregating or
cansing others to congregate thereon
in such manner as to prevent fret-
passage along and oh the same or any
part thereof. Any person violating
this ordinance or any provision there-
of shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor and upon conviction therefor
shall be fined in any sum not more
than Twenty Five ($25.00) Dollars.
It is provided, however, that nothing
In this ordinance shall prevent per-
sons from placing packages of goods
which they may be receiving or ship-
ping on any sidewalk, If same shall
not occupy more tlmn four feet of the
sidewalk and shall not remain there
more than two hours.
It is further provided that nothing
herein shall prevent persons from leav-

censing of drivers of service automo-
biles, providing license fees, making It
a misdemeanor to operate a service
automobile in the city without first
obtaining a license or without display-
ing the license nnmber, providing a
penalty and declaring an emergency.
Be It Ordained by the City Commis-
sion of the CUy of Sherman:
Section 1. That 11 shall lie hereaf-
ter unlawful for any person, either for
himself or as agent, to operate or
cause to lie operated wHbiu the city
of Sherman any automobile for the
purpose of trans)iortiug passengers for
hire without first obtaining a license
so to do.
Sertion 2. That license provided for
in the preceding section shall uot be
Issued except upbn an application
therefor in writing, which application
shall be made to tbe Director of the
Department of Finance, stating the

fplicant has been convicted of guy vio-
lation of any of the traffic ordinances
of the City of -Shermau, the place of
residence of said applicants for a
period of at least five years before

An ordinance making It a misde-
meanor to Improperly use any part of
thf municipal water system of the <Hty
of Sherman or to improperly draw or
take water therefrom, fixing penalties
therefor and declaring an emergency.
Be It Ordained by the City Commis-
sion of tlie City of Sherman:
Section 1. That if any person shall
use any water from any connection lti-
atalled for private fire service or
break any seal thereon for any purpose
other than to extinguish fires which
threaten the destruction of his prop-
erty, lie shall be fined in any sum not
less than Twenty-Five ($25.00) nor
more than Two Hundred ($200.0
Dollars.
Section 2. That any person who
shall knowingly use water from a hy-
drant connected with a meter wlllch
registers less than the correct amount
of water, shall be guilty of a misde-
meanor and upon conviction therefor
shall be fined In any sum not less than
Ten ($10.00) Dollars nor more than
Two Hundred ($200) Dollars.
Section 3. That any person other
than an authorised city employee who
shall turn tbe water on at any fire
hydrant of curb cock of or connected
with tbe municipal water plant of file
City of Sherman, or use water from
any such hydrant or curb cock after
‘lio same has been unlawfully turned
on, lie shall lie guilty of a miscemean-

($2.00) Dollars nor more than Twen-
ty-Five ($25.00) Dollars,
Section 4. That any person who
shall knowingly use any by-pass or
other contrivance by means of which
water Is taken from the municipal
water works system of said city with

Section 5. That all workmen or
other persons who shall construct or
install auy by-pass or contrivance for
the taking of water from the said mu-
nicipal waterworks system through a
metered hydrant without the water1 so
taken lieing registered by said meter,
he shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor and ii|ion conviction therefor
shall be fined In any sum not less than
Ten ($10.00) Dollars nor more than
Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars.
Section 6. That any ixTson who
sliall take, injure, mar, deface, littei-
fere with or damage any waterworks
Iniilding, machinery, apparatus, fix-
ture, reservoir, standpliie or appurte-
nance iielonging lo or used in connec-
tion with the waterworks system of
the City of Sherman or any public or
private hydrant, meter, stop cock, stop
cock box, shut-off valve, shut-off valve
box. meter box, water supply or ser-
vice pipe, or any part thereof, or who
shall deposit anything In any such
stop cock box or shut-off cock box
or meter box or in any manner ob-
struct or Impair the use or Intended
use of any of tbe above mentioned

Baptist church, of which Mrs. Hattie
Bond Bu*h Is leader, enjoyed a very
delightful evening at the church Hal-

Children’s Club.
The children's club of Airs. Cobb’s
music firth met at the class room last
Saturday, October 28 at 2 p. m., with
number of young workers present.
This was the fifth meeting since re
organization this year and after de-
riding to give the club the name “Be
Sharp” club ami adopting as a elass
motto “Do Our Best," a lively pro-
gram was carried out.
Great things have small lieginulngs
and with the help uud encouragement
given us so far we hope to make these
meetings Ik-tter each week. There are
ubout sixteen member* lu all.

Sun Beam Band.
The Sun Beam Band of the First
Baptist church had a mast, enjoyable
Hallowe'en party at the home of the
leader, Airs. John Rtaiu. Each came
ghostly attire and were asked at
the door the password which was a
scripture verse.
After x[tooky games, graphanoht
music and refreshments came the
ghost light. Each guest was pre-
sented with a miniature pumpkin
head as a souvulr of the occasion.
Those present were Genevieve Dor-
chester, Orlena and Allen Shaw, Em-
etta and Alargare) Allman. Alouette
Duncan. Lilly and Sadie Shaw, Selma
