| Editor Daily Nkws:,
| I understand Mr. Jim Brown, eonnect-
! cd with the M., K. & T. railroad, is about
i to resign h's position for the purpose of
engaging in agricultural pursuits, lie
j surprised the boys a few days since by
‘ performing the extraordinary feat of
1 ploughing up some seven acres of
I land in less than live mintves’ time. As
this .eclipses tilt: performance of the great
1 English steam plow, we may sately state
| that Mr. Brown’s new invention will rev-
olutionize tiie entire process of ground
breaking.
As Mr. Brown lias been talking over
tiie line for the last twenty-four hours with
tiie lion. Secretary of tiie Interior, and
only ceased after exhausting all ihechem-
icals in the Western Union battery, hav-
ing obtained a patent for 959 years, which,
aft-r his demise, he intends to bequeth as
a legacy to all the Browns who may come
after I can see no harm id explaining the
inodus-operat.di. The process is very
simple in detail—and yet how strange it
is that some of tiie greatest discoveries
are the result of mere accidents. Indeed !
1 have sometimes thought if the pippen
which dropped troin tiie tree had struck
Sir Isaac Newton on tiie nose, instead of
descending to tiie ground, ti e great se-
cret of gravitation might have been lost
to the world for gei erations— or if Ben.
Franklin’s kite string had broke—but as
the reader will not understand what I am
driving at, I will explain Mr. Brown’s
process: Stand on your head, forming a
rectangle quadrangle quadrilateral to an
inclined plain, boiled down which means,
stand on your head, put vour nose in the
ground, and tiien grab frauticlv at a
freight car going about, u miles per hour,
and you have Mr. Brown’s process of rap-
id ground breaking exemplified.
Verry Respeotiully,
Hugo.
N. B. For the benefit of grangers vve
would stale that Mr. Brown is liable to
give a performance most any time during
the day.

Mr. T. J. Benderman pascal ■ through
this city Tuesday evening with a man
named Busel Bean, heavily ironed, on
his way to Gonzales county, to turn over
his prisoner to the Sheriff.
Bean is charged with murdering two
men, Einet Trammel and a Mr. Deacli,
in that county, some three or four years
ago, in a most cowardly manner, lie
has been living tiie past three years in
Pauls Valley, in tiie Chickasaw Nation.
Mr. Benderman acted under authority
from Governor Coke and Governor Over-
ton, of tiie Chickasaw Nation, 'n making
the arrest.
He secured his prisoner Saturday, at
his home, without difficulty, hut that
night Bean attempted to buy ids liberty
by offering the guard $500. This ruse
not succeeding, lie clinched tiie guard,
threw him to the ground, and was about
to secure his slio* gun, when Benderman
reached him, and through tiie agency of
a cocked six-shooter, brought tiie desper-
ate man to terms.
Bean is a large, thick-set man, with
heavy black wliiskeis and a very red
face—taken altogether, a hard looking
specimen of humanity. There is a re-
ward of $3<jo offered for his delivery to
file Sheriff" of Gonzales county.

Again tiie Nkw s. with its usual enter-

ken, by Mr. Ncaie,, which, in tiie judg-

as it is possible to make it, but lie hasn’t
the manhood to add that tiie taking of
this census was a private enterprise of

“What I know, I know,” said tiie great
surgeon Magendie. “Give me stubborn
facts: I care not for theories.” This is
sound doctrine. Possibly a medical mar-

to show why Dr. Walker’s Vimg-r Bit-
ters ought not to cure indigestion, head-
ache, nervousness, liver complaint, mus-
cular diseases, minstnatic fevers; but as
they do in every instance effect that ob-
ject, his fine theory would lie a waste of
words. As Magendie said, the world de-
mands facts, not speculative opinions.
