ance at the Presbyterian church last
night to hear Rev. Mr. Carson’s fare-
well soimon. He gave some inter-
esting statistics of Ins work. He
has been connected with the church
here for three years. During that
limo the church lias been given
many repairs, being refu -nislied,car-
peted, etc. A now bellry lias boon
builtandanew Troy hell bought.
During bis pastorate tluriy-iwo
members wore received on their
profession of lailh; filly-six nave
been received or. ceniticutes Irom
other churches; forty children and
seven adults were baptized; lliirty-
two removed Irom the city;
two were expelled; four
died ; 1,010 children enrolled in the
Sunday School ; 28,000 books, tracts
and papers distributed. lie esti-
mates that he has pleached to from
S,000 to 10,000 people in that time,
and was absent but twice. lie made
a special point to preach against
those great evils, gambling, intem-
perance, Sabbath doscci'alion read-
jug licenious literature, and sp ritu-
alism. lie avoided sensationalism,
making it his aim to d > good, rather
than to draw crowds. He Icels that
this is a hard field, owing in a great
measure to the prevailing spirit ot'
worldliness, the opposition ot so
many to the Bible, and the unstable
character of the population liilliorlo.
He lias devoted much ot his atten-
tion to Sund ry schools, because ho
felt that the child is mine impressi-
ble—more apt to receive guud teach-
ings.
He finds a want of co-operation
since he broke a wit to the saddle.
The colt and trainer formed a strong
mutual attachment, the former
showing groat griel when the latter
lull homo. During Mr. Nelson’s
recent visit to his fathers place in
Indiana, tho horse, now grown old,
but still supple and strong, and with
eyes tiudimracd, recognised his old
master at once and gave tokens ol
delight. The horso is now thirty-
five years old and does his regular
days work. This is one ol the best
illustrations ol the faculty known as
■‘horso-sonsu” we have ever lieaid.
