General Joe. O. Shelby, Genual
Jell Thompson and others at its head,
i lie original scheme was planned
some two veais ago in St. Louis, as-
M>ted by the advice of Colonel Mc-
Kenzie, who had a short time pre-
vious raided into Mexico after some
thieves and robbers, and spent a dav
oi so in St. Louis on in’s way to
Washington. The plan then was to
organize a grand military colony. In
the lead were to figure Colonel Me
Kenzte, Generals Jell Thompson and
Joe O. Shelby, with Major Bacon
Montgomery and other adventurous
gentlemen. The present one ap-
pears to lie handled by the same gen-
tlemen, hut with the flattering pros-
pect before them that under present
auspices they can go as colonists in-
to the northern tier ofMexican States,
and with the flattering assurance
that before a year the same will be-
long to the United States. Your
correspondent will keep posted as to
the grand scheme.

a gentleman who was an officer in
the Confederate army, atul lias for
mnn v years been recognized as a Dcm
ociatic leader ilitiie South, declaring
in full and definite terms, that the
Confederate war debt shall never be
recognized or assumed by the United
States; that no claim for slaves freed
during and by the war shall ever be
esteemed lawful, and that the nation-
al credit must be ever kept unim-
