At the Charleston races the finest
thoroughbred* in the country arc to be
seen and the condition of the horses is a
wonder to all who behold them, and it
has only recently been discovered that
they can be kept in thi* condition by mix-

Wi son was taken to Dr. Hanna who
probed the wound, which is in the left
hip, but could not find the ball, which
ranged downward toward the knee. The
wound is quite a serious one and may lay
the man up some time, which is the more
to be regretted as he has a wife and two
children depending upon him for support.
Wilson says ne was going into the tim-
ber, east of the railroad track, in the
morning, to cut wood. At the edge of the
woods he was met by Hughes, who de-
manded paymerd of thirty-five cents lie
1 wed him. Wilson told Hughe* he would
have to wait until he could get it. This
did not suit the avaricious and pugilistic
Hughes, and he drew a pistol, saying he
would shoot him if he did not pay over
the money. He fired twice, but the first
ball did not take effect. The second hit
him in the the thigh as above stated. As
soon a* he saw Wilson was *hot he ran
away‘and Wilson has not seen him since.
