ELECTION KETCKNS.
A bill provTding tbi the free trans-
mission of public documents and
official matter by Congress has been
agreed upon in the House of Reptc-
sentatives. _____
■ Mr. Cdmingo, of Missouri, defends
4J-‘-*<*»4*d'*alarv bill. His recent
feet that the public clamor against it
had been produced partly by misrep-
resentation and partly by misappre-
hension of facts.
Through the courtesy of Capt. W
D. Kirk, just from Sherman, we are
enabled to give our readers the result
of the election in this county:
A letter from Tort Sill, Indian
Territory, says that there is no pros-
pect that the Comanche Indians will
gtve up the murderers, as demanded
Ky the treaty of last October. The
military will at once endeavor to ar-
rest the marauders.
Notwithstanding the fact that the
law under which the one per cent,
school tax for 1S72 was levied, has
been repealed, the Sheriff of Lamar
county, says the North Texan, con-
tinues to collect it from those who
will pay.

took up and passed the Senate bill re-
lieving Messrs. Bocock, Harvey and
Gregg, of Virginia, and Mr. Regan,
of Texas, of disabilities.
Gilt Concert announce the postponement
of the Fourth Gift Concert until Tuesday,
the 31st of March next.
The public will readily understand the
causes which have made this postpone-
ment necessary. •
The financial panic, which has for the
Iasi two months paralyzed the business ol
every section of this country and of
Europe, has prevented thousands from
investing in tickets. The epidemics per-
vading almost the entire South have cut
olf a large and available market. And,
too, the public judging from the effects of
them and have declined to invest without
a more positive assurance of the drawing
taking plaek on a fixed day.
All interested desire a full drawing, but
lor the reasons just stated this could not
be had on the 3d of December, but the
short postponement now announced will
secure it.
The management have met with un-
precedented success. The sales of tick-
ets, the proceeds of which have already
been received, amount to over a million
dollars, with a number of agencies in
this country yet to hear from, and all those
in Europe.
Thus a drawing (scaling the gifts one-
half) could be had now, but the manage-
ment deem it best to have a postepone-
ment and a full drawing.
This postponement assures the sale of
all the tickets and A FULL DRAWING.
That this determination will meet with
the approbation of nearly every one in-
terested is made apparent by the very
numerous letters received from every sec-
tion of this country and the Canadas
asking for a postponement.
This action of the management will

product of 150,000 bales of cotton and
the most of this cotton will be com-
