been ascertained as to the object ot
his journey:
A year or two after the war the
physician was in charge of a _ hos-
pital in Houston. One of his pa-
tients was an unknown man whose
nationality could not be ascertained.
This man growing worse, was in-
formed that he could not possibly
recover. Upon this announcement,
(lie patient had everbody to leave
the apartment except the Doctor,
and in a private interview stated as
a dving declaration that his lite had
been that of a robber and murderer;
that his “pal” or partner was dead,
to leave Galveston forever, as his
followers had so far forgotten them-
selves as to plunder American ship-
ping. The island again became a
waste, and only an occasional su-
perstitious hunter for the spoils ot
the pirates visited the sandy shores.
