Firri thousand dollars for forty-

turer.
The course of the Fort Worth
Democrat in characterizing eulogies
of the heroes of the Alamo, Son Ja-
cinto, clc., as twaddle does it no
credit. The man who has not a
kind word for and does not respect
tho memory of fallen heroes is a
very Ishm®l.
The health officer of Galveston,
Dr. Heard, visited Now Orleans to
ascertain the true nature of tho yel-
low fever opidemio in that city. On
his roturn the Galvestonians became
alarmed lest ho had brought infec-
tion with him, and took under con-
sideration the propriety of inviting
their health officer to tako a cruise
until tho danger was passed. Wo
believe the venturesome M. D. re-
mained, bowover.
The Express urges upon !he poo-
plo of San Antonio tbo importance
of manufactories. This subject is of
importance to almost overy portion
of Texas and should be moro pre-
sistently urged by the press. There
is no more promising nor inviting
field for manufacturers than Toxas,
and if tbo matter was properly pre-
sented, there is no good reason why
all necessary manufactories should
not bo secured.

That Milieu it. Tbe fiat bath
gone forth. The antiquated fossils
are satisfied. Tbo time-honored, in-
iquitous and clumsy two-thiids rule
is, and must remain. To speak o!
its defacts and discuss its demerits
now is out of place. W e must fold
our hands and humbly acquiesce.
Lot ns make no offort to move foi-
ward with tho limes; lot us bo satis-
fied with whul we have, be it ever
so obnoxious. It is rank horosy to
find fault with that which the late
convention so overwhelmingly en-
dorsed. Whoever lifts his voice
against tbatrott.cn relic of the past,
the time-honored two thirds rule
should bo straightway expelled from
the parly. Any further discussion
is out of placo. Any persons with
ideas of their own, who havo not yet
fallen into the scar and yellow leal
of mossbackerv must be muzzled.
Intelligent man who have seen tbe
defeat of the popular will by this
time-honored observance will not
humbly and subraissivoly bow in
abject obedience to tho command.
They will discuss and discuss until
this blot of dead rot is cleared
from off the observances of
tbe party. It is all very
well for the politicians lo cry out in
favor of this docrcpid oxcresence on
tbe body of tho party, bocause they
are tho ones that seek to be benefit-
ed by its adaptability to foster and
further tbo defoat of tho popular
will, but tlio rank and file will in-
sist on btvng represented by their
conventions. Expressions like
this of tho Bonham News and simi-
lar ones in its Denison namesake,
aio calculated to disgust progressive
men with tho democratic party.
Tho great mistake is not in the ex-
pressions, but in tho arroganco of
tboso from whom these expressions
emanate. They really affect to bo-
lieve that they represent democracy,
whreas, on the contrary they mis-
represent it, and represent only
their own inborn conceit and effete,
dilapidated old-fogishncss.

It may even be that already the
