The News was favored with a call
from Colonel Eldridge Saturday. The
Colonel is a very pleasant genfleimn, so-
cially, and we have no doubt lie will give
our citizens an entertaining lectuic to-
night. His reputation a:, a gallant Con- j
federate officer, and the fact that he has
enjoyed a successful practice for many
years before the Memphis bar, are recom-
mendations sufficient to secure hnn a can
did hearing on a subject dear to his heart,
the promulgation of which is with hint a
duty of conscience. He and-his wife are
botli spoken of in the most complimenta-
ry terms by the Memphis press and the
pipers wherever thev have visited. The
Shreveport Times says yi a late issue,
that tiie Colonel’s lectures are earnest,
eloquent at .1 profound, and that he is an
honest, earnest and true man. Of Mrs.
Eldridge, that she is an excellent medium,
modest in Iter demeanor, Commanding
the respect of every one. Colonel and
Mis. Eldridge will remain in our city a
week, and it is their wish that all may re-
ceive the proof so many have vainly
sought, that it a man dies he shall live
again.
