Keeton,Flores share honors as
club’s student-of-the-month
Miss Cheri Deann Keeton and
Miss enedina Flores have both
been chosen Rotary Club Stu-
dents of the Month by the
Palacios High School faculty.
Cheri is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jimmie R. Keeton.
Dina is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Abelardo Flores.
Cheri has been a member of
the National Honor Society for
three years. She is also serving
as Historian this year and last
year in the Future Teachers of
America.
Cheri has been very active in
the Future Farmers of America,
serving as Chapter Reporter her
junior year and Chapter Presi-
dent this year. She is the first
female elected as president in
Palacios Future Farmers of Am-
erica history.
Cheri served on the Annual
Staff her sophomore and junior
year. She was a junior class
representative of the Student
Council.
She has participated in Editor-
ial Writing U.l.L. competition,
placing third in district in 1983-84
and placing fourth in district in
198485.
Upon graduation Cheri plans
to further her education in
Animal Science.
Dina was a member of the
freshman volleyball team, junior
varsity volleyball team and vars-
ity volleyball team. She also
participated on the junior varsity
tennis team her freshman year.
Dina was a freshman, soph-
omore and junior class represen-
tative in the Homecoming Court.
She was elected 1984 Homecom-
ing Queen.
i She was vice-president of her
freshman ciass, vice president of
her sophomore class, and presi-
dent of her junior class. Dina was
also Junior Class Favorite.
Dina has been a member of the
National Honor Society for three
years and served as vice presi-
dent her junioi' year.
Dina has been very active in
the Palacios Shark band. She has
been a member of the Flag Corp
for three years, serving as
co-captain in 1982, captain in
1983 and was drum major during
1984 football season. She was
also a state finalist in flute trio in
U.l.L. competition her junior
year and a state finalist in U.l.L.
flute trio and solo her senior
year.

county history book
Blessing Day honorees
ONE OF THE highlights of the
annual Blessing Day activities
Sunday was the naming of the
Blessing Man and Woman of
the Year. This year’s honors
went to the husband and wife
combination of John and Bonn-
ie Graff. As usual, a large
crowd was on hand for the
day-long event held at the
Blessing Community House. In
addition to the barbecue lunch,
visitors also epjoyed games,

Pre-registration for PISD
kindergarten classes May 13-17
Orders are now being taken for
the two volume set “Historic
Matagorda County’’ to be pub-
lished next year.
The books document the hist-
ory of the county from the 1500s
to the present. The volumes have
been a Texas Sesquicentennial
project of the Matagorda Council
Historical Commission, the Pal-
acios Area Historical Associa-
tion, the Matagorda County
Historical Society and the Mata-
gorda County Genealogical Soci-
ety. They were compiled by Mary
Ingram, head librarian for the
Bay City Public Library.
A brochure containing order
forms and information about the
historical project will be dis-
tributed county-wide. The 1,500-
page two volume set is priced at
$50 from now until March 31,
1986. The cost will increase to
$60 after publication.
in addition to the sets that are
sold, they will also be distributed
to all 253 Texas counties and to
over 500 historical organizations,
schools and libraries.
The volumes will contain over
700 photos, 20 maps and 6,000
separate entries. The history will
cover various county organiza-
tions, communities, schools, chu-
rches and also several hundred
families.

Central Elementary School will
pre-register kindergarten child
ren May 13-17 from 9 a.m.-12:30
g.m. Children who are five years
old on or before Sept. 1, 1985 are
eligible to register.
Parents should bring with
them a birth certificate or
baptismal certification and the
child's immunization (shot) rec-
ord.
Kindergarten children are re-
quired to have the following
immunizations:
1. Dipteria, pertussis, tetanus
(DPT)-three doses are required
with at least one dose given after
the fourth birthday.
f. Polio-three doses, with at
least one dose given after the
fourth birthday or a note from the
child's doctor stating the child’s
vaccination is up to date and
when the next dose will be given.
3. Rubeola (red measles)--one
dose.
4. Rubella measles (3-day or
German measles)-one dose.
5. Mumps-one dose.
6. Tuberculin skin test-all first
time students to the Palacios
Independent School District are
required to have a TB test within
120 days of the beginning of
school or within two weeks after
the first day of school attendance
when enrolling after the school
year has begun.
Kindergarten children should
have a vision screening test and a
hearing test before school be-
gins. Completed vision and hear-
ing forms should be sent with the
child to school on the first day of
school.
Matagorda County health nur-
se, Mrs. Zurn, will hold two
special pre-registration clinics
June 4 and Aug. 20 from 9
a.m.-4:30 p.m. All health requir-
ements can be obtained from the
child's personal physician or
from the Matagorda County
health nurse.
The Health Department is
located at 405 Commerce, Pal-
acios, and the scheduled hours
are Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m.-12
noon and Thursdays from 1-4:30
p.m.

Galloway certificate
Joe Galloway of Palacios will
complete requirements for teach-
er certification in elementary
education at the University of
Houston-Victoria this May. She
will specialize in Eiiglish and
receive and endorsement to teach
kindergarten.
She completed here student
teaching assignment this spring
at Central Elementary. Sandra
Wallace and Bobbie Kana served
as her cooperating teachers. Ms.
Galloway will receive a Bachelor
of Science degree in Education at
the May 12 UH-Victoria com-
mencement.
Also, she will receive a recom-
mendation from UH-Vicioria for
a Texas teacher's certificate.
