On April 1, a 1987 Chevrolet
was stolen from the parking lot
at Sandpiper Apartments.
Martin William Ragusin, 35,
of Palacios was charged with
disorderly conduct on April 1
after an incident at a residence on
Perryman Street.
Victor Longoria, 25, of Pala-
cios was arrested for public in-
toxication (auto) and driving
with no driver's license after his
car was observed driving down
the wrong side of 9th Street on
April 2.
Benito Bcrrcra Rosillo, 29, of
Palacios was charged with public
intoxication after he was ob-
served near a bar at 9th and Main
on April 2.
Isreal Garcia, 35, of Palacios
was arrested for public intoxica-
tion after a domestic disturbance
in the 900 block of Welch on
April 2.

Magnolia, Texas was observed
removing a gas can from a boat
parked at the residence of Pala-
cios Police Chief Don Gullctt on
April 3. No one was home at the
lime. However, Gullctt's father,
Dick Gullctt, who lives next
door, confronted Grace with a
revolver and Grace quickly left
the premises, driving a truck to a
gas station in Palacios where he
was arrested and charged with
criminal trespass.
Peggy Lynn Baggett, 27, of
Palacios was arrested April 3 for
public intoxication and resisting
arrest after an incident at a bar at
9th and Main.
A car was stolen from the 400
block of Commerce on April 3,
but was recovered soon there-
after.
Santana completes
IJSMC boot camp
in San Diego, Calif.
Marine Pvt. Gilbcrto L. San-
tana, son of Magdalcno L. and
Esther Lara of Palacios, has
completed recruit training at Ma-
rine Corps Recruit Depot, San
Diego.
During the 13 week training
cycle, Santana was taught the
basics of batilcficld survival and
introduced to the daily routine
that he will experience during his
enlistment. He studied the per-
sonal and professional standards
traditionally exhibited by
Marines.
He participated in an active
physical conditioning program
and gained proficiency in a vari-
ety of military skills including
first aid, rifle marksmanship and
close order drill.
A 1990 graduate of Palacios
High School, Pvt. Santana
joined the Marine Corps in Octo-
ber 1990.
Two dnwgs and a delight
SARA FAUSTER, Operation KidSafe coordinator from
Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton, hanibones it up
with two dogs, McGruff the Crime Dog and Safety-
Pup. All three will appear at the Operation KidSafe
program this Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
at the Palacios Recreation Center. The free program is
for area kids from the ages of 4 to 12 and will stress
safe procedures in such diverse areas as boating
safety, electrical safety, gun safety, personal safety,

Operation KidSafe
here on Saturday
Arc you a kid between the
ages of 4 and 12? If you are you
may not know everything there
is to know about the big, bad
world and that ignorance or in-
experience could get you hurt.
If you're not a kid between
the ages of 4 and 12, but you
know of such a person, you
would be doing them a big favor
to get them to the free KidSafe
operation at the Palacios Recre-
ation Center this Saturday.
From 9 a.m. until 3 in the af-
ternoon, kids will attend different
"classes" at the Recreation Cen-
ter, each designed to help save
lives and reduce injuries to chil-
dren through educating the child.
Jim Lovett of Texas Parks
and Wildlife will teach boat
safety while Joyce Harvey, a
Red Cross Water Safety Trainer,
will handle water safety. First
Aid and Fire Safety will be
taught by Ronnie Callahan,
director of the Palacios
Emergency Medical Service and
Sammy Davison, assistant fire
chief of the Palacios VFD.

Detective Rick Brush of the
Palacios Police Department will
share his knowledge in a drug
awareness course. Abel Pierce,
commander of the Quccn-Hamlin
VFW post will talk about bicycle
safety, Elgin Janssen from
Central Power & Light will tell
the kids about electrical safety.
Captain Lloyd Barr of the Bay
City Police Department and
Karen Kinard, Director of Child
Protective Services in Matagorda
County, will teach personal
safety. Gene House, Hunter
Safety Educator, Mick Schcib,
NRA-Ccrtificd Instructor, and
Danny Perez will handle gun
safety. Anita Dement, Director
of Nurses at Wagner General
will talk about sun and heal
safety while Carla Hyctt, CPR
Instructor Trainer, wili share her
special knowledge with the kids.
There will be other stuff too;
hand-outs, movies, fingerprint-
ing, etc., for the children. All
kids from 4 to 12 are welcome
and invited to this free program.
