Road bids asked
Bids are being taken on the widening of State Highway
35 from Bay City to Markham.
The roadway is slated to be widened to four lanes with
the new construction done on the right-of-way on the
south side of the present highway.
The estimated costs of the project is $2.5 million.
Work is slated to begin February 4 with the work
expected to be completed in 200 working days.
A total of 3.4 miles of work is to be done.

Lodge
The hard rk of the
Brownie and Junor Girl Scouts
during the month of November
was well worth the effort when
representatives from each
troop saw the enjoyment and
gratitude on the faces of the
residents of Leisure Lodge
Nursing Home.
On Saturday, December 2,
representatie from each troop
displayed the results of their
meetings.
Members of Brownie Troops
201, 202, and 204 have been
busy making vrious scrap
items into Santa Clause’s,
snowmen, and elves for darl-
ing Christmas table arrange-
ments. They also made many
different tree ornaments in-
\ eluding drummer boys, snow-
men, glittery scenic decora-
tions from egg cartons and
various other decorations that
were hung from the table
trees. A colorful Christmas
wall mural made bv Troop 204
was hung on one cafeteria wall
and draped with red and white
crepe paper.
The Junior Girl Scout
Troops 36 and 37 made each
resident a colorful door braid
decorated with scented cotton
puffs, jingle bells, candy canes
and personalized greeting
card. Troop 37 also hung gaily-
decorated Christmas pictures
on the cafeteria walls,
The Brownie Scout repre-
sentatives were Meredith Co-
lura and Kelly Matusek with
leader Roberta Ripke from
Troop 201; Sherri Harr and
Jody Dawson with leaders
Wanda Harvey and ary Mar-
tinez from Troop 202.

Christmas activities for Lei-
sure Lodge several of the Girl
Scout troops plan to fill the
halls with their joyful voices by
singing Christmas carols in the
near future.
HOLIDAY SEASON IS FAST APPROACHING Some city
employees and volunteers spent Friday afternoon and Saturday
putting up decorations, giving Palacios that “It’s Beginning to
Look a Lots Like Christmas” look.
BROWNIE AND JUNIOR GIRL SCOUTS with several of the
many decorations they proudly displayed at the Leisure Lodge
Nursing Home Saturday, Dec, 2. They are standing, Iris Stork,

The Webelo Scouts of Pack
47 had their first camping trip
of the year in November.
The scouts cooked their own
meals, sat up their own tents,
built their own fires and
attended to clean-up opera-

Basketball players hurt
Three Bay City High basketball players were injured
last Wednesday in an early - morning collision in Bay
city.
injured were Larry Moore, Roderick Smith and Thomas
Jackson.
The accident occurred when the vehicle driven by
Moore collided with another vehicle, driven by Cornelio
Castanon of Sweeny at the intersection of Seventh and
Sycamore in Bay City.
Charges were filed against both drivers.
The three players were treated and released from
Matagorda General after being taken there by private
auto.

In November Brownie Girl
Scout Troop 204 had a combi-
nation Investiture and Star
Ceremony.
It began with a Flag Cere-
mony. Regina Solis was caller,
Irma Gonzales, flag bearer,
Suzanne Holsworth and De-
nise Smith, color guard.
Rebecca Bray recited the
Brownie Story, followed by
Kimberly Blackburn, Rebecca
Bray, Lisa Long and Regina
Solis receiving their Brownie
Pins after making the Girl
Scout Promise.
This was followed by a
Candlelight Ceremony.
Kimberly Blackburn lit the 3
large candles which stood for
the three parts of the promise.
Tonya Dunn read the 10 parts
of the Law as the candles were
lighted by the other scouts.
Those receiving their year
stars were Kim Ellis, Valerie
Garcia, Monica Gibson, An-
gela Hester, Suzanne Hols-
worth, Missy Rose, Jennifer
Sainz, Tonya Dunn, Racquei
Sellers, Denise Smith and Lisa
Stork.
Irma Gonzales will receive
her year star sometime in
January.
Women’s Club
The Prairie Center Wo-
men's Club held their regular
meeting Friday afternoon,
Dec. 1, at the home of Mrs.
Dorothy Corporon with the
vice-president Mrs. Ruby
Lechtenberg, presiding. Seven
members attended.
The meeting was opened
with singing of Christmas
hymns with Mrs. Dorothy
Corporon accompanying at her
organ.
The program “Senilety
Strikes,” “Toxic Fruits and
Vegetables” and “Food and
Drug Interactions" was pre-
sented by Mrs. Marguerite
Arlla.
The next meeting will be the
annual Christmas covered dish
supper to be held at the
clubhouse Friday, Dec. 15th
beginning at 6 p.m.
