Boling blasts
Sharks 84-48
A strong second period
surge by the Boling Bull-
dogs propelled them to
an 84-48 victory over the
Palacios Sharks Friday
night.
The loss left the Sharks
0-3 in district play and
dropped the club to 2-17
on the year. Boling pick-
ed up its first league
victory against two losses
while improving its over-
all chart to 7-10.

kins. the Bulldogs suc-
ceeded in pounding the
hoop for 31 points in the
period to assume an
overpowering 43-15 lead.
Watkins, who finished
the game with 21 points
to his credit, chippped in
14 in the first half.
Led by Freddie Jack-
son, the Sharks picked up
their scoring pace in the
third, slamming home 16
points. The team, how -
ever, slipped further be-
hind in the finaf period as
Boling outscored its hosts
22-17.
Jackson was the top
scorer in the game with
21 points with teammate
Eloy Garcia connecting
for eight and Bill Quinn
with six.
The junior varsity
Sharks also lost their
matchup, falling to Bol-
ing 40-27.
Both teams played
against Van Vleck Tues-
day and will host the
Needville Bluejays Fri-
day beginning with the
freshman game at 5 p.m.
Hardys to speak
for Youth Week
Rev. Earl and Betty
Hardy of San Antonio will
be guest speakers for
National Youth Week at
Church of God of Prophe-
cy, 508 4th Street on Feb.
7-14.
Rev. and Mrs. Hardy
have had a joint ministry
for over 25 years. Mrs.
Hardy traveled in evan-
gelistic revivals in early
ministry and continued to
travel occasionally after
marriage.
Rev. Hardy pastored in
Liberty Alvin, Corpus
Christi and San Antonio.
They currently travel as
state representatives. He
represents the under
shepherd program of the
church and Mrs. Hardy’s
ministry is oriented to
Sunday School.
Everyone is invited to
attend this week’s ser-
vices nightly at 7 p.m. set
aside to honor and recog-
nize otir youth.
FIVE MEMBERS of the Pafacios High
School and Junior High FFA and two
members of the Roundup 4-H partici-
pated in the Fort Worth Livestock Show
over the weekend. It marked the first
time that youngsters from Palacios have
traveled to Fort Worth to enter their
livestock In competition. Pictured above
with Ag teacher Billy Miller are Bamle
Aparicio and John Cunningham. Also
taking part In the competition-were
Larry Abrahamson, Shongh Ramsey
and Latricla Ramsey. The group was

Navy Seaman Recruit
Kenneth D. Gonzales,
son of Albert Gonzales
and Mary H. McGee,
both of Palacios, has
completed recruit train-
ing at the Naval Training
Center. Great Lakes. 111.
During the eight-week
training cycle, trainees
studies general military
subjects designed to pre-
pare them for further
academic and on-the-job '■
training in one of the
Navy’s 85 basic occupa-
tional fields.
Included in their stud-
ies were seamanship,
close order drill, Naval
history and first aid.
Personnel who complete
this course of instruction
are eligible for three
hours of college credit in
Physical Education and
Hygiene.

Palacios was in the third
where the club netted 14
points.

credited with ten points
for Palacios as Teresa
Baggett scored eight and
Kint Polk seven.
