Senior participants
hear mediation talk
Dates to remember: missed
last week on activities list was
Bingo every Thursday 10:30 to
11:30 with Barbara Trotter,
caller. Prizes are given to win-
ners. This event is drawing large
participation. Come join the fun.
Health screening last Tuesday
drew excellent numbers with 50
blood pressures, 25 blood sugars
and one hearing test. Apprecia-
tion again is given to our faithful
volunteers, Naomi Jensen and
Peggy Pierce.
Last Thursday after Bingo,
the Administrator of Leisure
Lodge, Jcrcstcnc Lcath, spoke to
the seniors on "mediation." This
is a means of settling disputes
without involving the law, such
as the Justice of the Peace. She
has been a mediator when living
in Houston and found it a suc-
cessful and free means of work-
ing out problems. Mediators are
trained volunteers. As examples
of kinds of problems which
could be resolved through this
means arc: a senior living alone
harassed by neighborhood kids;
a rip-off on repairs such as a
hearing aid, etc.; verbal or phys-
ical abuse and many other areas.
The Justice of Peace has to en-
force the mediation resolution.
Ms. Lcath is trying to get this
means of solving senior prob-
lems going in the Palacios area.
She is very much interested in
getting volunteers willing to be
trained to do this much needed
service. Please contact her at
Leisure Lodge, 972-2542 if in-
terested.
Last Monday we had a won-
derful musical treat with the ad-
dition of Tony Rodriquez on the
saxophone, along with Bob
Woll, clarinet and Esther Smith
on the piano. Tommie Tollerson
took over the piano toward the
end to give Esther a rest. We are
lucky to have all this talent com-
ing to us.

Weight Loss
Surprises
Researchers
WASHINGTON -A nutrition or-
ganization was hopeful that a nutri-
tionally complete “hi-tech” food
tablet would help erase world hunger
problems, until a study revealed that
one of the ingredients could cause
significant weight loss.
Researchers in Europe found that
an ingredient in the aptly named prod-
uct Food Source One actually caused
people to lose weight, even though
specifically instructed not to alter nor-
mal eating patterns, according to one
study published in the prestigious
British Journal of Nutrition. Research-
ers in an earlier study had speculated
that the weight loss was due to a
decrease in the intestinal absorption
of calories.
While the development of Food
Source One, a project of National
Dietary Research, would not be used
to successfully fulfill its original goal,
the discovery has been a windfall for;
overweight people. A Daytona Beach,
Florida woman fighting a weight battle
for 12 years used the product on the
recommendation of her physician am$
lost 30 pounds. She stated, “Not only !
have I lost 30 pounds but my choles-
terol has dropped from 232 to 143.1
have twoclosels full of clothes which
have not fit me in two years that 1 can
now wear.” In a separate report, a
telephone interview revealed that a
Wilmington, North Carolina pharma-
cist lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks on the
product and was never hungry.
Food Source One tablets are part
of National Dietary Research's com-
prehensive plan to bring a rapid end
to obesity in this country. A variety
of nutritionally sound diet plans, spe-
cially prepared by NDR, accompany
each bottle and provide a natural,;
drug free alternative for confrontin
the problem of obesity.
