DPS patrols increased
Holiday driving caution urged
Major A.J. Mladenka.
Regional Commander of
the Department of Public
Safety said today. "Bas-
ed on past holiday experi-
ence, we know that num
erous persons will lose
their lives and hundreds
will be injured on Texas
streets and highways du-
ring the Memorial Day
weekend. This will be the
first major holiday of the
year and many people
will plan a short trip to
the beach, a park, or to
visit friends. These trips
can be spoiled by an
accident," he warned.
Mladenka said. "DPS
Troopers will be on patrol
throughout the holiday
period to reduce, both by
their presence and ac-
tions. violations that cou-
ld lead to accidents. But
the co-operation of the
motoring public in. the
observance of the traffic
laws is needed, if a
reduction of accidents is
to be realized."
Major Mladenka stat-
ed. "possibly the most
prevalent type of acci-
dent occurring this per-
iod will be the one car run
off the roadway type of
accident which can be
attributed to fatigue, dri-
ver inattention and/or
driving while intoxicat-
ed."
To guard against acci-
dents. the Major sugges-
ted plenty of rest the
night before, and a sche-
dule that will give plenty
of time to reach your
destination. Above all. do
not mix alcohol and driv-
ing.
Major Mladenka said,
"Drivers who think a-
hcad. stay a!e4t and drive
defensively can have a
safe trip and a great
holiday." . *

New
home cuts heating,
cooling and water heating energy use up to 50%!*
Cor years Central Power and
1 Light Company has worked
with builders, architects and
designers to help you save money
through the Energy Efficiency
Award program. The homes built
to EEA specifications were a good
value, enabling their owners to
make impressive savings in
utility costs.
But with the technological
advances developed in recent
years, CPL now is introducing an
even better, more energy efficient
house. The new Good Cents home
makes it possible for householders
to reduce use of electricity up to
one-half for the "big threef that
consume the largest share of the
totai energy budget in a typical
residence: heating, air condi-
tioning and water heating.
The owner of a Good Cents
home lowers operating costs
through adequate insulation and
highly efficient systems for cool-
ing, heating and water heating.

conducted energy analysis.
Soon builders across South
Ifexas will be producing and sell-
ing Good Cents homes. If you are
planning to build or buy a new
house, consider one of these super
energy-savers. Besides getting
more for your money now, youll
enjoy up to 50% savings on major
electricity users throughout the
life of your home-and gain
added value for possible
future resale.
The erect amount of savings will depend nn
individual circumstances.
