Celebrate Fiftieth
Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Payne of
Vista, Calif., formerly of Palacios,
celebrated their 50th wedding an-
niversary recently at the home of
their daughter, Mrs. Harold Hunt.
The occasion was celebrated with
a family reunion with seven of
their eight children attending, in-
cluding Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Blouin
and children, Mr, and Mrs. Wayne
Havermaker and family of Hous-
ton; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Payne of
Pasadena, Mr. and Mrs. Oval Ed-
wards and children of Vista, Calif.,
Mr. and Mrs. Luke Durnal and
children of San Diego, Calif., Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Payne and children
of Port Lavaca and Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Hunt and daughters of Pa-
lacios.
Wedding Date Set
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Clardy an-
nounce the engagement and ap-
proaching marriage of their daugh-
ter, Florence, to Ollie Falks, son
of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Falks of
Bay City.
The wedding will be an event of
January 22, 1960. They will make
their home in Houston where he is
employed by the Coca-Cola Bot-
tling Co.

A BIRTHDAY PRESENT
Mrs. L. L. Harvey, Star Route,
was in the office Monday renewing
her subscription to The Beacon.
Her husband presented her with a
subscription on her birthday 17
years ago and she has continued
taking the paper since that time.

Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Clay-
bourn announce the arrival of their
baby daughter, Celia Kay, on No-
vember 28 at Wichita, Kansas. She
is being given a hearty welcome
by her brother, "Hank” and grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Clay-
bourn, Sr., of Palacios and Mrs.

Petersen's In Second
Position In Queen
Pins Bowling League
Petersen’s Restaurant with a 31
won 17 lost record was in second
place after last Thursday’s play
in the Queen Pin Bowling League.
Maddox Motor was in fourth, Ram-
sey’s 11th and Shrimp Net 12th.
Maddox was high team for three
games and Petersen’s second. Ar-
lene Stewart was second high in-
dividual scorer in three games and
Pie Pierce, third high in one also
three games.
Celebrates Birthday
Helen Wilson, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Wilford Wilson, cele-
brated her first birthday Thursday
night, December 3, at the home of
her grandmother, Mrs. Ida Wilson,
in Deutschburg.
Refreshments were served to the
honoree, her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Sherman Green and grandson
“Squeaky”, Mr. and Mrs. Hershel
Poston, her grandmother, sister,
Yvonne, and Helen Bolling, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. David Bolling.
Boone-Tumlinson
Miss Barbara Boone, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Boone of Freer,
became the bride of James Tumlin-
son, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J.
Tumlinson of Rockport, on Satur-
day, Nov. 28 in the Freer Metho-
dist Church.
Attending the wedding and re-
ception held in the church Fellow-
ship Hall was Miss Elizabeth Tum-
linson of Palacios, cousin of the
groom.
The groom is the grandson of
Mrs. J. T. Tumlinson of this city.

THE BAND BEAT

Last Thursday night Mr. Graves
took a number of band students to
Hallettsville to district band try-
outs. We’re proud to say that each
of them made it. Placing were
Marion Wilson, first chair, tim-
pano; Julian Jenkins, first chair,
baritone; Ann Cooper, first chair,
flute; Juanita Murphy, twentieth
chair, clarinet; Karen Bell, second
chair, flute and Juanita Hill, second
chair, oboe. Congratulations all
They are now eligible for regional
band tryouts this Thursday. Good
luck.
Bandsmen from all three schools
are selling fruit cakes again this
year. We would appreciate it if
you’d buy fruit cakes from the
band.
F.H.A. NEWS
The Palacios F. H. A. Chapter
held their regular meeting Mon-
day night at 8:00 in the H. E*
cottage.
President Georgene Stubblefield
wishes to thank everyone who do-
nated food to our joint scavange*
hunt with the F. F. A. November
17. Two boxes of food were deliv-
ered to the Presbyterian Mexican
Mission from this project.
Everyone from groups one and
two must bring a nickle for re-
freshments.
We passed a rule that from now
on girls should have a good excuse
for missing a meeting.
Mrs. Theo Cox visited our chap-
ter and demonstrated making cor-
sages and place cards. The cor-
sages will be placed on hospital
trays during the holidays.

WEDNESDAY CLUB
The Wednesday Club met Dec.
2 at the home of Mrs. AmoB Duffy
with Mrs. Anna Sartwell presid-
ing. Twenty-one members answer-
ed roll call by telling rn interesting
fact about our two new states,
Alaska and Hawaii.
The nominating committee chair-
man, Mrs. W. W. Scott, presented
the following names for officers of
the club for 1960-61; Mrs. Bertha
Backen, chairman; Mrs. Anna Sart-
well, vice chairman; Mrs. Henriet-
ta Jeffers, secretary and Mrs. Ber-
tha Bowden, treasurer.
Miss Elizabeth Gilbert had
charge of the program and pre-
sented a guest speaker, Mrs. Eula
McDonald of Bay City, who show-
ed slides of her trip through Alaska
and told interesting facts about
the different places they stopped.
She also showed slides of Hawaii.
Mrs. McDonald’s program was en-
joyed by all present.
During the social hour the host-
ess served dessert and coffee from
a beautiful candle lighted table
with Mrs. Anna Sartwell pouring
the coffee and Mrs. Ethel Mc-
Donough serving the dessert.

Tom Kidd spent the Thanksgiv-
ing week end in Brenham with Mr.
and Mrs. D. U. Sikes, former resi-
dents of Palacios. Other guests
there were Rev. and Mrs. James
Sikes and family of Fort Worth,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sikes and
family of Beeville, Mr. and Mrs.
Dennis Morgan and family and Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford Skelton and fam-
ily of Houston.
