Aquatic Weeds
The first of these programs is
designed to aid pond, lake and
reservoir owners in dealing with
aquatic weed problems. With the
mild winter and other favorable
environmental conditions, the
area’s water retention com-
pounds have been plagued with a
wide variety of aquatic weed
infestations. These pesky plants
can overwhelm the banks and
waters causing frustrations for
those irrigating from reservoirs,
using ponds for recreational
fishing or swimming, or comm-
ercial fish or shellfish farming.
Plant identification, effective
pond management practices and
the impacts of chemical controls
on fish, wildlife, livestock, irri-
gated crops and humans will be
the featured topics at this Ex-
tension Service clinic. Partici-
pants are encouraged to bring
weed samples (in water filled
jars) to receive firsthand iden-
tification and treatment recomm-
endations immediately following
the formal presentation session.
The program is for all persons
interested in aquatic weed con-
trol. However, pre-registration
by phoning Patsy Sansing (409)
244-7650, is recommended as
