reported Feb. 25 when a South
Bay resident complained that
someone had taken a magazine
from her box.
'! Frank Villarreal, 44, of Pala-
cios was arrested Feb. 25 for
criminal trespass after refusing to
leave a residence.
Four blue and white 48-qt ice
chests were stolen from a garage
in the 300 block of Craymcr on

Thomas Lancar Jackson, Jr.,
30, of Bay City was arrested
Feb, 26 at a liquor store on Main
Street while trying to gel cash for
a forged check. The check had
been stolen in a burglary in Bay
City. Bond was set at $5,000 on
a forgery-passing charge. Jack-
son was also held for Victoria
County, where there is a warrant
for his arrest on charges of DW1
and violation of parole.
Roberto Rodriguez, 30, of
Matagorda was arrested March 1
for public intoxication and
assault after a domestic
disturbance.
On March 1, April Myers, 32,
of Palacios was charged with
public intoxication after she left a
bar in the 400 block of Com-
merce.
Charges of failure to stop at a
stop sign, driving with no
drivers' license, and failure to
provide proof of insurance were
filed against Gabino Martinez
Maldonado, 34, of Palacios on
March 2.
Artemio Castillo Garza, 25,
of Wichita Falls was charged
with public intoxication, driving
while his liccasc was suspended,
and failure to provide proof of
insurance. He was arrested after
an officer observed his vehicle
weaving down 1st Street on
March 3.
Police answered a call on
March 3 about a fire plug being
hit by a vehicle The hit-and-run
driver could not be identified, but
a passenger in a vehicle nearby,
Willard Cults Greenlaw, 58, of
Palacios was arrested for public
intoxication.
Mario Diaz, 29, of Palacios
was arrested March 3 on charges
of driving with no license and
failure to provide proof of insur-
ance.
Opry supports ODS-USA
PAT HEBERT, bass player with the Renegade Band,
presented a check to Vivian Sliva of the Palacios
Chapter of ODS-USA last week. Renegade is the
"house band" for the Matagorda County Country Opry,
a monthly event which features soloists from through-
out the region in a country music concert. The Opry
has been playing for over a year and has appeared in
Palacios, Blessing and Bay City, but has-for the mo-
ment at least--settled in the Bay City Service Center
and has a show every fourth Friday of the month.

rattlesnake races
San Patricio will host the 19th
annual World Championship
Rattlesnake Races will be held
March 16-17.

PUBLIC INVITED!
The event is part of the com-
munity’s St. Patrick's Day Cele-
bration which has been held an-
nually since 1877. In addition,
games and contest for all ages
will be held including egg-catch-
ing, human wheelbarrow races,
sack hops, 3 and 4 legged races,
spiderman races, boost races,
etc. Prizes will be awarded to
winners in each contest.
Activities will take place both
days from 10 a m. til dark.
All games arc free, except for
the Snake Races, which costs
$25 to enter and are limited to
age 18 and over. Daily admission
fees to the Snake Grounds arc $5
for adults, $4 for senior citizens
55 and over, $2 for children 6-
12, and free for those under six.
The Rattlesnake Races begin
mid-afternoon, and contestants
not wishing to bring their own
rattler will be furnished ,a-' Any
contestant mishandling a snake,
or getting snake-bitten, is auto-
matically disqualified.The races
arc put on bv 'hr* s^n Patricio
Restoration Society to raise
funds for a permanent Museum.
Ollier activities include Rat-
tlesnake Handling Exhibitions,
helicopter rides, Texas
Gunfighters Shootout, carnival
rides, and arts and crafts booths.
San Patricio (pop. 241) is lo-
cated 30 miles northwest of
Corpus Christi on FM 666.
