ADA BETH OWINGS, 4 year
old daughter of Jack and Peggy
Owlngs of Tres Palacios Oaks,
is a state finalist in the Bine
Bonnet Pageant recently held
in Houston. She competed in
the “Little” division [4-6 years]
and won the beauty, photoge-
nic and portfolio titles. She also
was first runner-up in the
talent competition. She will be
competing at the Blue Bonnet
National Pageant In July and Is
in need of sponsors for this
event. Interested persons
should call 588-7491. Ada is the
granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs.
R.P. Stubblefield of Tres Pala-
cios Oaks, Houston and Liv-
ingston, and Mr. and Mrs.
J.M. Owings, Jr. of Houston.
Local youngsters
at heifer show
•Lake Charles, Louisiana was
the site of the 11th Annual Junior
Santa Gertrudis Heifer Show.
Attending from Palacios were
Len Tucker, Kristi Kubecka,
Jason Miller, Wade Kubecka,
and Mark Kubecka.
The week of activities included
public speaking, showmanship
contest, livestock judging contest
and showing heifers.
In the public speaking contest,
Mark and Wade Kubecka both
gave speeches but did not place.
In the showmanship contest
Kristi Kubecka placed fifth in the
senior group and Len Tucker
made the finals but did not place.
In the junior group Mark Kub-
ecka made the finals but did not

with Air Test and Evaluation
Squadron-One, Naval Air Sta-

High School, she joined the Navy

In the heifer show, in Class II
heifers calved May 1 to June 30,
1986, Jason Miller placed fifth
with Wendt 3689. Mark showed
Kubecka 626 but did not place.
In Class III heifer calved April
1 to April 30, 1986 Mark placed
19th.
In Class IV heifers calved
March 1 to March 31, 1986,
Kristi Kubecka placed sixth with
Briggs 25 1/6, and Wade Ku-
becka placed 15th with Kubecka

1 to Feb. 29, 1986, Mark
Kubecka placed ninth and Len
Tucker showed Kubecka 613 but

Tecently held a Skate-A-Thon to
benefit the Texan's War on
Drugs Committee in Palacios.
Approximately 47 students parti-
cpated and raised $1,051.51. The
money will be used by the local
committee to provide speakers,
supplies, and other items used by
the committee throughout the
year.
The event was sponsored by
OEA with the participation of two
other grqups on campus-Nation-
al Honor Sbciety and Future
Homemakers of America. Karen
Dailey received the most money
in pledges and Eddie Redden
claims “Super Skater” honors.
OEA hopes to make the Skate-
A-Thon an annual event and
wishes to thank the students who
participated by skating and the
community for supporting the
skaters with their pledges.

The 1987 edition of “Who’s
Who Among Students in Ameri-
can Junior Colleges” will include
the name of Enedina Flores,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Abelardo Flores of Palacios, who.
has been elected by Wharton
County Junior College faculty as
an outstanding campus leader.
Ms. Flores was named to the
Dean’s List and treasurer of the
Biology Club at WCJC.
Enedina plans to major in
Physical Therapy at Texas Tech
School of Allied Health Sciences
in Lubbock.
