Patience and skill.
THE RESULTS of many long hoars
of planning and hard work on the
part of the Construction Trades
Classes students were on display at
the Palacios Library last week.
Detailed scale models of the
framework of various styled houses
were presented at the exhibit. The
Construction Trades classes, instr-
ucted by Bob Trant, Include both
junior high and high school stud-
ents. The future homebuilders
designed their own floor plans and
meticulously cut and nailed hi
place each piece of wood.
Library plans Pen Pal program
Recently, libraries ha-
ve been involved in crea-
ting pen pal programs.
This simple, yet valuable
program begins when a
librarian sends names
and addresses of interes-
ted children to another
librarian in another state.
She then matches up the
participants by age, sex,
and interests when poss-
ible. Pen pal programs
have proven to be quite
successful and enjoyable
for youngsters.
Palacios Library pen
pal program has now
been started and child-
ren are being encouraged
to take part. Names of
children signing up for
this program will be sent
to a participating library
in New York state. All
registration slips must be
brought back to the Pal-
acios Library no later
than May 23. A copy of
the matched pen pals will
be sent back to the Pala-
cios Library from New
York in June or July.
Children should check
with the library for the
name of their pen pal
during these months and
a notice will be in the
newspaper when they are
received.
Plans are also under-
way for the annual Sum-
mer Reading Program.
Registration for “Magi-
cal Mysteries” is June
13. The program will
begin June 13. A pro-
gram will begin June 20
and run from 9:30-11:30
a.m. A special event wili
be presented each Wed-
nesday by the high school
speech and theatre de-
partment.
The library receives
new books each week.
Some are “Brothers” by
Bernice Rubens, "Almo-
st Paradise” by Susan
Isaacs, “Warday” by W-
h;.ley Strieker, “The H-
aj” by Leon Uris and
“Random Hearts” by
Warren Adler. For the
children new books are
coming in for the summer
program. Persons who do
not have a library card or
a card is out of date
should come by the libr-
ary so a card can be
issued.
Through the courtesy
of the Palacios Area
Historical Association th-
ere is a display in the
library of items from the
past. These items are
examples of things given
to PAHA for a future
planned museum. If any-
one should have articles
that they would like to
donate toward this coll-
ection or interested in
becoming a member, co-
ntact Colleen Claybourn
of the Historical Assoc-
iation.
I want to thank the
People of Precinct 3
for the vote of confi-
dence you gave me by
re-electing me your
Constable with such a VJP-
large majority of voters. This was most gratifying
and 1 will strive to maintain the high standards that
the people should expect of their Constable.
THANKS AGAIN,
