Progress report given
on sr. citizen project
I he Board of Directors
of the friends of Elder
Citizens, Inc. met Oct.
27 at the Palacios Libra--
rv. An up-date on the
progress of the senior
center project funding
campaign was given by
the committee.
Fourteen grant propo-
sals have been sent out to
various industries and
foundations in order to
raise the needed match-
ing funds to receive the
Palacios Area Fund
grant.
t he Board unanimous-
ly voted to send within
the next few weeks a
letter to the residents of
Palacios asking for dona-
tions. large or small, to
the needed senior center
building. All donors to
this project (names only)
will be listed on a docu-
ment which will be per-
manently hung in the
new senior center build-
ing. Memorials are wel-
come and the names of
those to be remembered
will also be listed along
with the donor of the
memorial.
Donations are tax de-
ductible and may be sent

Palacios.
It is anticipated that
the original figure of
SI 12.200 estimated last
June will probably have
increased as a prediction
of 3% to 5% rise in costs
was given at that time.
For this reason, the soon--
er funding is achieved
the better. Through the
work of Anna Mae Elliott
and Jacque Moore, a
large thermometer has
been constructed to be
placed in the downtown
area with the goal of
S125.000 at the top. As
funds come in the rise of
the thermometer wilt be
noted. The amount stated
gives room for inflation.
Anv access in the build-"
ing fund will be placed in
the operational fund
which will be the next
step after the building.
The Friends, on behalf
of all elder citizens of
Palacios, expressed their
gratitude for the tremen-
dous suooort for the
project so far. Apprecia-
tion is extended to all the
Bayfest workers and par-
ticipants and to all those
who donated handmade
items to the Friends Craft
Corner, making that
booth a successful con-
tributor.
