New Arrival project annually

January calendar. But the date
of the event varies consider-
ably.
In 1985, the new year was
only 51 minutes old on January
1 when Mykel Eugene Dunn
was born to Sherrie and Mark
Davis. Prompt arriver Mykel
Eugene weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz.
One year later Palacios resi-
dents waited minutes, days and
even weeks for the appearance
of 1986’s first baby Jessica
Marie Perez. She was born on
January 19 at 11:50 p.m. A
hearty 10 lbs., 12 oz., Jessica
Marie was the daughter of Mary
Helen and Patrick Martinez
Perez, Jr.
Angela Michel Weixelman
was 1987’s first baby of the
year. January 4 was her birth-
date with the time of birth being
7:20 a.m. Angela Michel, dau-
ghter of Kathy and Mike
Weixelman, arrived weighing 7
lbs., 7oz.
Regardless of date of birth,
the first baby .berrt in 1988 at
Wagner General Hospital will
receive a special welcome to the
world from Palacios area mer-
chants and residents. Through-
out November and December,
the Chamber of Commerce has
gathered gifts and donations for
the new baby.
Contributions include baby
clothing, Palacios Area Fund;
diapers. The Picnic Basket;
flowers, Palacios Floral; formu-
la. Shark Drive Inn.
Gifi certificates fur uauy
items have been donated by
Hamlin's Minimax, Palacios
Prescription Shoppe, Sears, and
Winn’s Stores, Inc.
Other gifts are $25 savings

continuing to accept donations
to the New Baby Fund. Cham-
ber hours are 1-5 Monday
through Friday.
UH-Victoria has local off-campus courses
University of Houston-Victoria
will offer off-campus courses in
Bay City and Palacios this spring
for graduate students.
Palacios High School will be
the site of a course offered in
Palacios that will provide infor-
mation on phonics, basal read-
ers, grouping, and language
experience. Dr. Marsha Grace,
Assistant Professor of Education,
will instruct "Survey of Reading
Instruction" (C&I 5360) on Mon-
days from 6-9 p.m. in Room 78 at
the high school.
Students may register for
off-campus classes at the first
class meeting during the week of
January 18, or they may par-
ticipate in registration at UH-Vic-
toria, 2302C Red River in Vic-
toria. Regular spring registration
is set for Wednesday, Jan. 13
from 4 to 7 p.m. for graduate
students and post-baccalaureate
students. All students may regis-
ter on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 8
a.m. to 6 p.m.

In Bay City, "Managerial Fi-
nance’ ’ (FIN 6311) will be taught.
The course will examine prin-
ciples and methods of asset
management and financial plann-
ing along with the attainment of
short and long-range objectives.
Dr. Greg Hamilton, associate
professor of finance, will instruct
the class on Thursdays from 5 to
8 p.m. at the South Texas Project
Training Center, Room 201.
“Marketing Administration”
(MKT 6311) will focus on mar-
keting concepts and programs
incorporating the societal per-
spective in formulating strategies
for designing, pricing, channel-
ing, and promoting products or
services. Taught by Dr. Alain
Genestre, assistant professor of
marketing, the class will meet on
Mondays from 5 to 8 p.m. at the
STP Training Center, Room 201.
