Airman Clayton A. Clayboum
son of Mrs. Lucille T. Clay-
bourn and retired U. S. Army
Lt. Col. Guy R. Clayboum of
Palacios, has graduated at
Sheppard AFB, Tex., from the
U. S. Air Force aircraft me-
chanic course conducted by
the Air Training Command.
The airman, who was trained
to repair current Air Force
jet aircraft, Is being assigned
to Camp New Amsterdam AB,
Netherlands, for duty with a
unit of the U. S. Air Forces
in Europe.
Airman Clayboum Is a 197a
graduate of Palacios High
School.
Bicentennial
projects
planned
Elvin Tyrone of the Texas
Education Agency will discuss
planning for Bicentennial pro-
jects In the classroom at 11:30
a.m. Friday (November 21)
at a luncheon meeting of the
Coastal Bend Social Studies
Council at the Bonanza Sirloin
Pit, 3407 N. Navarro, In Vic-
toria.
Th e meeting Is part of the
activities scheduled during
the District Convention of the
Texas State Teachers Asso-
ciation.
Tyrone will speak to a group
of elementary and secondary
teachers and provide source
Information on Bicentennial
materials for use In classes.
All teachers In the TSTA area
have been Invited to attend
by the Council president, Ms.
Marilyn Parsons, teacher at
Calhoun High School, Port La-
vaca.
Reservations should be made
by calling or writing Ms. Par-
sons or Gloria SpellatO Con-
nor Elementary School In Vic-
toria. The cost of the luncheon
will be $2.50.
The council, which includes
teachers In the 15-county Vic-
toria area, was organized In
October. Officers elected In-
clude Ms. Parsons, president;
Keith Uerkert, teacher at Cal-
houn High School, vice-presi-
dent; Ms.Spell, secretary, and
Ms. Diane Prince, treasurer.
Ms. Prince, who is an In-
structor of social studies
education at the University
of Houston Victoria Campus,
was selected to represent the
Council November 27-29 at the
National Council ofSocialStu-
dles Teachers Convention In
Atlanta, Georgia.

program set
The Zeta Alpkfiiapterofthe
Delta Kappa>6P'ma Society
held their November meeting
on Saturday, November 8, at
the Presbyterian Fellowship
Hall in Palacios. The regular
session was held at 9:30 a.m.
and the executive board meet-
ing was at 9 a.m.
The meeting was called to or-
der by President Evelyn John-
son of Bay City.
The program was an “Over-
view" of the work and pro-
grams for the next three
years. This was presented by
Laura Curtis of Bay City.
Mary Sheeran read an Inspi-
ring devotional.
A delicious brunch of hot
biscuits, butier and jam, lit-
tle sausages, assorted fruit,
cookies and coffee was served
by the Hostesses; Thelma
Batchelder, chairman, Hor-
tense Wyatt, Mary Sheeran,
Louise Guttenberger, Eliza-
beth Scott, Marguerite Kelly,
Victoria Elder, all of Palacios
and Eva Tenberg of Bay City.
Members from Palacios and
Blessing attending were as
follows: Thelma Batchelder,
Sunshine Edwards, Victoria
Elder, Louise Guttenberger,
Frances Lawson, Edith Lin-
ton, Ruthella Rothrock, Eliza-
beth Scott, Mary Sheeran,
Irene Stevenson, Marguerite
Kelly, Florence Trull and
Hortense Wyatt.
The next meeting will be the
annual formal Christmas
party to be held Saturday,
December 6, at the Van Vleck
Elementary School at 7 p.m.
All members should make
plans to attend this Christmas
and initiation of new members
party.
