Voters cast ballots Saturday in city election
Three-way race for Palacios mayor, contested races for two city council seats to be decided

sions this Saturday (May 7) when they head to
Palacios City Hall to elect a mayor and two city
councilmembers. All three positions involve con-

The poll at City Hall will be open Saturday from
7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Based on early voting results, the turnout for
tested races.

A candidate forum for can-
didates in the Palacios city
election will be held at 7 p.m.
Thursday (May 5) at the Pa-
lacios Recreation Center.
Sponsored by the Cham-
ber of Commerce, the forum | BEVEHLY WATSON
will include candidates for"
mayor and city council.
Saturday's election is expected to be heavy. The
early voting period ended Tuesday and as of Mon-
day over 100 individuals had cast their ballots.
A trio of candidates arc running for the office of
mayor. They include incumbent Beverly Watson,
current councilman George Holst and write-in can-
didate Donald Kopecky.
The race for Position 1 on the city council is
between incumbent Chris Woll and challenger Hallie
Homeier.
Incumbent Lucy Mata is also being challenged
for re-election by Esteila Alamia for Position 2.
All three elected positions are for two-year terms.
The race for mayor tops the city ballot. Watson s
bid for a second term is being opposed by Holst,
who currently has one-year remaining on his Posi-
tion 4 council term, and by Kopecky, a former
