5 YEARS AGO-1989
The Palacios Economic Development Foundation (PEDF) had
agreed to participate along with Calhoun, Victoria and Jackson
County economic development entities in the formulation of a
1 economic development video to be underwritten by General

Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Robert W. McIntosh, son of Betty

The 1989 Mid-Coast Little League Minor League champs were:
the Palacios Rangers, manager Rick Cink and coach Eulalio Flores;

Blessing Tigers, manager Marshall Halloway and coaches Dennis
Busha and Nick Flores.

The Lions Club was making plans for the Firecracker 200 power

to be on hand to run for price money and A.P.B.A. points.

study on reducing flood damage due io the hurricane in the Mata-
gorda Bay area.

The Thunderbirds won the championship on Little League miyor
league division and the Cubs won the title in the minor league

1969 as the city's part of the one percent city sales tax voters

Goldston Construction of Corpus Christi, with a low bid of
$52,000 ,was awarded the contract for improvements at the turning
basin.
Saturday was the day of the Lions Club’s big celebration includ-
ing barbecue, rides, free boat races and fireworks. That night the Fire
Department will sponsor a dance at the Recreation Center,
Within 30 days the Federal Aviation Agency will add to its "very
high frequency omnidirectional radio range” at the Palacios airport
a distance measuring feature which will tell a pilot just how far they
are from any given point.

City mail delivery service has been approved and the post office-

Star team for Palacios and Calvin Ragusin the coach.
Gas deliveries from the Palacios field to Coastal Transmission
Co. started last week and by Saturday night was running close to
7,000,000 cubic feet daily.
40 YEARS AGO-1954
Some 120 youngsters participated in the Red Cross swimming
course at the Bay City pool
Matagorda County Commission’s Court tentatively set the county’s
1954-55 tax rate at 77 cents per $100 valuation, a reduction of 14
cents from the current year.
A big weekend was planned to celebrate July 4th. Activities will
begin Saturday night with dance sponsored by the VFW and the
Lions Club's annual carnival will be held on Monday,
Work has started on a new store for Partain’s Food Market.
Over 274 youth and their sponsors were enrolled at the District 4
Baptist Youth Camp.

A flood from the upper reaches of the Colorado River submerge^
Bay City. It was the fourth time the county seat town had been
inundated since December of the preceding year,
Jim Ferguson, candidate for governor, made a talk here which wag
the first time any candidate for governor had honored Palacios with
a visit.
