The Palacios 9-Year Old All-Stars rallied
back (tom a 10-7 deficit to pull out a thrilling
U-10 extra-inning win over Brazos last
Wednesday to win the Area 1, District 18 Little
League All-Star Tournament.
P The victory advances the Palacios team into
die tour team, double elimination District 18
Tournament which begins Friday (July 8) in
Sweeny
In the opening round at 6 p.m. Friday, Alvin
plays Bay City, in the S p.m. game, Palacios
will take on Lake Jackson-American.
Both Palacios and Alvin start off with handi-
caps in the tournament—carrying over one loss
each fiom their respective area tournaments last
week.
AREA 1 TOURNAMENT
Erupting for three runs in the bottom of
fifth, Palacios forced last Wednesday’s champi-
onship game Into extra innings when Gary
Write drilled a one-nin triple up the middle to
score Brandon Edwards and knot the game at
10-10, Palacios won the game in sixth after
Tyrcse Lee led off with a walk and Joe Ro-
driguez followed with a grounder to short
which Brazos hobbled, allowing Lee to score
when the throw to third sailed into the dugout.
Palacios* opportunity to secure the tide the
preceding day against Brazos in the double-
elimination tournament failed after Brazos
staged its own rally, overcoming a 7-2 deficit to
take a 10-9 win. With one loss each, the two
teams were forced into a winner-take-all show-
down.
TITLE GAME 1
BRAZOS 10, PALACIOS 9
In the initial encounter, Palacios tied the
game at 2-2 in the first when Tyrese Lee stole
home after reaching on a walk and Tyler
Thompson scored on a passed ball. The team
broke the deadlock in the second on a one-
tun double by Lee to score J. D. Greenwalt and
another passe l ball that tallied Lee.

double and a three-run triple to take the lead,
1-7. Palacios came back to tie the score at 8-8
and tores extra innings when Matthew Gargjl
walked and was driven in on Lee’s single up
the middle.
Brazes responded with two runs in the sixth
to make U 10-8, utilizing a tingle and a triple.
The determined Palacios contingent came close
to pulling the win out, loading tire bases with
two out, but managing only one run on a theft
of home by Thompson.
Lee started the game on the mound for
Palacios, going three innings and giving up
only two runs on one hit ana four walks while
fanning eight. Thompson got the loss, allowing
eight runs on five hits and nitre walks with six
strikeouts. Lee had two of the five hits for tire
team with a double and a single. Thompson
smacked s double with Matthew Garcia and
Ramirez each with a single.
TITLE GAME 2
PALACIOS 10, BRAZOS It
In the final showdown, Brazos again cam*
out strong, taking a 2-0 first inning lead and
extending it to 3-0 in the second. Brazos ap-
peared to have put the game out of reach after
opening up a 7-0 lead in the third off starter
Aparicio.
Palacios, however, cut the margin to two with
five runs of its own in the bottom of the inning.
With Esteban Gonzales and Lee on via walks,
Rodriquez hit a two-run double to center.
Thompson then followed with an RBI double
of his own. Passed balls later allowed Thomp-
son and Matthew Garcia to tally.
Pulling away again, Brazos struck twice in
the fourth off of reliever and winner Matthew
Garcia for a 9-5 lead. Once more, Palacios
came back right back. Back-to-back singles by
Ramirez and white were followed by a sacrifice
grounder by Chris Duke to make it 9-6. White
then came in on a hard-hit triple to the leftficld
fence by Lee.
After Brazos added a run in the top of the
fifth for a 10-7 lead. Palacios found itself with
its back to the wall The team, however, re-
sponded to the pressure with a three run attack
to tie the game. Thompson heat out an infield
single and Matthew Garcia followed with a
double. Edwards came through with a grounder
to second which was mishandled, allowing both
runners to score. Apairicio also reached on an
infield single. One out later, White smacked a
up the middle to score Edwards with ‘
run. Aparicio, hoping to score the
