Notices of appraised
values were mailed out
last week to over 40,000
property owners in Mata-
gorda County according
to Bob McAdams, Chief
Appraiser for Matagorda
County.
The new values shown
on the notices are the
result of over 18 months
of work performed by
Associated Tax Services,
the firm hired to do the
actual appraisal work.
Each of the notices will
include the new proposed
value along with the
exemptions which have
been applied for by the
property owner. Each
property owner will have
an opportunity to discuss
the value placed on his
property by making an
appointment to meet with
the appraisers. The
phone number, 244-2031,
appears on all of the
notices along with the
address, 1717 8th Street.
Bay City, Texas.
Property owners wish-
ing to appeal their values
after meeting with the
appraisers may do so
anytime prior to June 28.
The appraisal Review
Board will begin hearing
appeals on Monday, June
14, and continue through
July 1.
County wide appraisal
districts were created by
the Texas Legislature in I
1979 to force uniformity g
in property values.
For future information,
contact Associated Tax
Services, Inc., 214-258-
0313.
The deadline for apply-
ing for homestead and
agricultural use exemp-
tions is extended to June
18. McAdams urges all
taxpayers who are eligi-
ble for these exemptions
to apply prior to June 18.
Catwoman to the rescue!
ARMED WITH a net and a package of
lunch meat, Paula Thompson takes on
the role of Good Samaritan as she
climbs down into a storm sewer to try
and rescue stranded kittens. Paula,
along with several other feline lovers,
were busy last week attempting to lure
the cats to safety. The cats could be
heard “meowing” at the corner of
Fourth and Commerce. Despite the
valiant effort on the part of Paula, the
cats refused to accept her aid. The
drainage covering was eventually left
off and a board placed in the drain in
case the cats decided to come out by
themselves. |Beacon Photo by Nick
