Wagner and Matagorda General from the hosP,u1'
Hospitals. They are as follows:
1. Individual help with insur-
ance forms on the second and
fourth Tuesday of the mopth.
Please call Wagner for an
appointment.
2. Ninety day extended pay-
4. A family member may stay
in your room at no charge when
you are in the.hospital.
5. Physician information and
.referral.
6. Twenty percent discount in
the hospital cafeteria. Be sure to
show your 55+ card if you have
to be admitted to the hospital or
if you are seen in the emergency
room.
Quilting at the Center is cer-
tainly a happy past time for
several. There are usually at
least five working whenever a
quilt is on the frame. We wish
more people would take advan-
tage of the Friday morning art
class with Jacque Moore. She is
an excellent teacher. There is no
charge to 60+ seniors. Others
may take the class for a $5 fee.
This is very reasonable for
quality instruction.
We miss O.B. Hunter who was
a faithful Center participant now
residing at Leisure Lodge.
Appreciation goes this week
to: Deena Harris for the splendid
gingerbread and cookies; Mr.
and Mrs. W. Pitchford, for a
generous supply of coffee; and
Deutschburg Community Center
for a check to the memory of Bud
Hamlin.

Texas Independence Day observance set
"Texas Independence’s Day-
March 2” will be observed at a
joint meeting of the Matagorda
County Historical Commission
and County Historical Society on
Saturday at 9:30 a.m.,in the Bay
City Service Center Auditorium.
The winners in the "History
Essay Contest” for seventh
grade students in the five junior
high schools of Matagorda Coun-
ty, will be presented in coopera-
tion with the sponsoring organi-
zation, the Sons of the Republic
of Texas, Chapter # 35. This
contest, in it’s third year, has
been sponsored to encourage the t
youth of this area to research and
appreciatge the rich heritage of
this part of Texas.
The essay winners with their
parents and teachers will be
recognized. The program is open
to the public, with a special
invitation extended to everyone
with “descendants" who were in
“Texas” when it was a “repub-
lic."
The first week in March was
designated years ago by many
heritage organizations as "Texas
History Week”. Local members
continue to recognize the impor-
tance of preserving historical
documents, marking and identi-
fying geographical historical sit-
es, and fostering an appreciation
and regard for the heritage of
Matagorda County, Texas.
The "March 7, 1987” meeting
will be a “Salute" to the key
volunteer workers who spent
years of dedicated service in
making it possible to publish
"Historic Matagorda County”, a
proclaimed history classic.
Bring your history books for a
special autograph session, a
unique “Show and Tell Pro-
gram” will conclude the morning
activities. "Show" the volun-
teers how much their work is
appreciated by getting signatur-
es. In the future it will enhance
the value of the books when you
"Tell” others the privilege it was
to have the autographs in making
each book become a "collector’s
item”.
The history books will be on
sale at the meeting. Also avail-
able will be the accurate Mata-
gorda County map of facts and
places never before included on
the map as an original Texas
county; having been earlier a
Mexican municipality settled by
colonists of Stephen F. Austin.
The 17x23 inch map is suitable
for framing, and will be a
conversation piece when hung for
viewing.
