Memorial Day had a special
meaning this year for members
of Queen-Hamlin Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 2467 and
their Ladies Auxiliary since most
of the servicemen and women
have returned from the Middle
East war with very few
casualties.
On Memorial Day members
conducted a flag-raising cere-
mony at the VFW Hall and the
Palacios Cemetery where they
also placed a Buddy Poppy
Wreath at the Memorial. Mem-
bers also placed flags on the
graves of veterans.
Later in the morning members
raised the flag at Central
Elementary and attended an
impressive program at East Side
Elementary. A Certificate of
Appreciation was presented to
both schools by a representative
of Operation Desert Shield who
recently returned from Saudi
Arabia.
In the evening, 43 members
and guests met at the VFW Hall
for a covered-dish meal followed
by the installation of officers for
the coming year. Awards were
presented to members of the Post
for their work and support last
year.

Trimming trees around power lines
can be a shortcut to tragedy.
You know the power line
is there. And, you know
you need to be careful.
But, it’s so easy to get
distracted. Don’t.
If you must trim trees
near power lines, keep
your priorities straight.
Safety first; then the
job. Better yet, call an
expert. Whatever the
cost, it’s worth it.
One brush with a power
line could be a shortcut
to tragedy.
