Isidro Castanon, a
senior at Palacios High
School has been selected as
the Rotary Club Student of
the Month by the Palacios
High School faculty.
Isidro was selected on
the basis of his strong
academic work and his
involvement in school or-
ganizations and activities.
He has been a member of
the National Honor Society,
Student Council. Future
Homemakers, and Speech
and Drama and also a
member of the Fighting
Sharks football team for
three years. He was a
member of the Area One
Act Play Crew and as a
sophomore was a regional
finalist in Informative
Speaking, and a state
finalist with the One Act
Play Crew last year. Isidro
serves as Vice President of
the Senior Class and was
selected by the student
body this year as Mr.
P.H.S.
Upon completion of
school this year Isidro plans
to continue his education at
Wharton County Junior
College and the University
of Texas at Austin.
Isidro is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Isidro Castanon.

The Pink Ladies of Wag-
ner General Hospital had
their regular meeting
March 2 with eight mem-
bers and Mr. Trull, hospital
administrator present.
Lurlee McCall read roll
call and minutes of the last
meeting. Fern Harvey
gave the treasurery report.
Members voted to buy an
Electro-Surgical Unit for
the hospital and a discus-
sion was held on the
purchase of new carpet for
the lobby.
Service pins were distri-
buted among members and
a past-resident pin was sent
to Mrs. Pat Whitman.
Roddy Clyde to
have performance
in Midffled
Roddy Clyde will be
returning to the Midfield
Church to present his spir-
itual message in song from
6-7p.m. Sunday.
Clyde is a young adult
from Austin with musical
talents and a message for
everyone. Refreshments
will be served.

Officers elected for the
ensuing year were as fol-
lows: Mabel Castner,

Cosmetology students
place first in contest
Six cosmetology students
from Palacios High School
entered the District X Voca-
tional Industrial Clubs of
America (VICA) Contest in
Pasadena March 6-7 and
came home with first place
ribbons.
Winning first in district
qualifies the students for
state competition to be held
in Dallas April 4-6.
Students and the area in
which they will be entering
are. Patty Collins and
Vickie Garcia, cold wave
division; Velenda Bates and
Deirdre Stork, wet set
division; and Gloria Robles
and Rosemary Buckley,
comb-out division.
Collins and Garcia are
both first year cosmetology
students while all other
contestants are second year
students.
The students were ac-
companied to Pasadena by
their advisor, Margie
Holst.

The recent Deutschburg
benefit Seafood Lunch and
Dinner netted $5,113.24 to
be divided among several
charities in Jackson and
Matagorda counties, ac-
cording to James Traweek,
president of the community
club.
Traweek estimated more
than 1,300 people were
served, and expressed ap-
preciation to the many who
worked on the project and
for the generous support of
the public.
The chairman noted
some of the funds will be
used on improvements to
the community building
and cemetery; and other
funds divided equally be-
tween the March of Dimes.
Heart Fund, Cancer Drives,
Camp Ripper, and others.
