Feather-Chiles
The marriage of Miss Bobbye
Chiles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
E. L Chiles to Mr. Robert Eugene
Feather, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B.
Feather took place Saturday, Jan.
II, 1947, at 10 o’clock A. M. in the
First Baptist Church with Rev.
Rayford Harris and Rev. L. W.
Crouch officiating. The vows were
taken beneath an arch of green
foliage, with baskets of pink roses
at each side.
Mrs. Arnold Burton, ut the piano,
fumishpd the wedding music, play-
ing the traditional marches also the
accompaniment for Mrs. Carl Halli-
day who sang ‘‘I Love You Truly.”
The bride given in marriage by
her father, wore a biege suit with
black accessories. She carried white
■gloves and had a corsage of white
gardenias.
Mrs. Lee M. Pierce, sister of the
bride, was matron of honor. She
■was dressed in a grey suit with
black accessories and u corsage of
pink roses. Mr. Ed Feather, brother
cf the groom served as best man.
Following the ceremony a re-
ception was held at the home of the
bride’s parents, after which the
newly weds left for Houston where
they will make their home during
the time Mr. Feather attends the
Houston University.

wedding were Mr. and Mrs. W. C.
Bvans, of San Antonio, L. L. Chiles
and daughter, of Midfield, and Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Feather, Houston.
B. C. Niven of Freeport, passed
through Palacios Tuesday enroute
to Harlingen on a business mis-
sion and w’ill visit his mother, Mrs.
Bessie Niven and sister, Mrs. H. V.

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Graff Entertain With
Dance On 25th Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Graff enter-
tained some three hundred guests
Friday evening Rn the Palacios Pa-
vilion in celebration of their twenty-
fifth wedding anniversary.
Music was furnished for the oc-
casion by Red Cornelson and his
orchestra and dancing was enjoyed
throughout the evening. The meet-
ing of friends, social converse and
congratulatory messages added in
a large way to muking the affair a
grand success.
Refreshments of sandwiches, rel-
ishes and hot coffee were generous-
ly served to all present. Mr. snd
Mrs. Graff were the recipients of
many beautiful gifts carrying out
the 25th wedding anniversary as
one for silver.
Besides a large number of Pa-
lacios friends the guest list included
out of town visitors as follows:

Girl Scout News
Troop 17, under leadership of
Miss Jodie Ellis met Wednesday,
Jan. 7 in the Library of the Palacios
Elementary School. The meeting
was called to order by patrol lead-
er, Marilyn Johnson. Mrs. Cairnes
and Mrs. Johnson discussed picture
plans with the girls. The scouts
chose China for their study of a
foreign country. The troop them
went to the gym where they joined
the Brownies and everyone had a
grand time learning folk dances.
Then Troop 17 returned to the Li-
brary and Jo Ann Munds, song lead-
er, led the troop in their closing
song, "Taps.”

Eighteen Girl Scouts of the Inter-
mediate Group of the Junior High
School met in room 14, on January
15, 1947 and the outline for pro-
grams to follow through May was
completed.—Joyce Woodland, re-
porter.
Troop No. 18, Girl Scouts met
Tuesday at the Methodist Church.
The meeting was called to oPHer by
the president, Gwen Johnson, and
we discussed the Hawaiian Cos-
tumes. After this the girls played
games and the meeting closed by
all singing “Taps.”

Mrs. C. N. Brown returned Mon-
day night after spending ten days
in San Antonio with relatives and
friends and a three week's visit
with her sister at San Juan. Mrs.
Brown stated the recent cold spell
hit the Rio Grande Valley, but there
was no serious damage to fruit and
vegetation due to the rain and
cloudy weather which followed im-
mediately.

sent Texas A. & 1. College in
“Who’s Who Among Students in
American Universities and Col-
leges."
Miss Stewart, u junior music ma-
jor. is president of the A Oapella
Choir and of the Wesley Founda-
tion. She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. D. H. Stewart of Palacios.
Announcement of the selection
was made Saturday by J. C. Jerni-
gan, dean of student life, who polled
the faculty. “Students were elect-
ed," Jernignn said, “on a four-point
basis of character, scholarship, lead-
ership in extra-curricular activities,;
and potentiality for future useful-
ness to business and society."
Mrs. H. C. Boyd has returned
home after spending the holidays
with relatives and friends at Hal-
lettsville and San Antonio. /
Miscellaneous Shower
A rharming hospitality for Miss
Bobbye Chiles, was a miscellaneous
shower Inst Thursday night at the
home of Mrs. Glenn Dale Clny-
bourn, Jr., who was assisted in
hostess duties by Mrs. Price iM.
Barnett and Miss Beverly Hart.
A naval theme was used for the
shower scheme, when Miss Chiles
was crowned with a sailor cap as
skipper of the good ship U. S. S.
Feather. The cargo of the ship con-
sisted of many beautiful gifts for
the honoree.
Refreshments of hot chocolate
and cake were served to the eigh-
teen guests.
Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Stevens, who
came to Palacios eurly in the full
huve completed their nice little
home at 406 Humphrey and liking
Palacios very much.
P. R. Ilumill, of Bay City, and
Mr. Smith of Port Lavaca, stock-
holders in the City State Bank were
here last Wednesday for the an-
nual stockholders meeting.

Turn on oven; set at moderately
•low (350° F.). Grease a quart bak-
ing dish. Cut bread slices into quar-
ters; arrange in baking dish in layers
with meat and cheese, having a layer
of bread in bottom and cheese on
top. Pour over a mixture of beaten
egg, milk, water, ealt and pepper.
Top with bits of shortening. Bake
about 25 minutes, or until firm.
Makes 4 servings.
