Palacios ISD voters will decide whether
to authorize the school district to spend
money to educate students in the Houston
ISD when they go to the polls this Satur-
day (Aug. 13) in a special election regard-
ing Option 4 of the equalized school 6- Mopac House in College port and at the
nancing Ut#T Deutschburg Community Center. H
PISD currently operates under
'Community Forum' outlining Option4 to
be held at 7 pm. Thursday (Aug. 11) in
the Board Room of the PISD Administra-
tion Bldg. e • - "Mi ;
Polling places for the special election
will be open from 7 a.m.-7 pm. Polling
locations will be at the PISD Administra-
tion Bldg, at 12th and Henderson, the
The public is encouraged to attend a
Option 3 of the school finance law. That
option requires that the district send tax
revenue in excess of the mandated
$240,000per student to die slate ina lump
sum payment to be distributed among
other school districts. That ‘excess’ tax
revenue in the case of the PISD amounts
to approximately $31-million
However, if voters approve Option 4,
the PISD will contract to send that same
excess revenue to help educate students in
the Houston ISD and at the same time
save the PISD several hundred-thousand
dollars.
According to Superintendent Rudy
Okruhlik, the PISD will realize the pro-
jected savings from being able to make
six installment payments to H1SD and
holding the balance due in an interest-
bearing account which could net
$3QQ,0(X)-$350,00. Additionally, the
HISD is willing to pay 80% of both the
PISD’s appraisal district fees and tax of-
fice operation costs which would save
PISD approximately another $269,000,
according to Okruhlik.
A third benefit to be derived from
passageof Option4, Okruhlik says, would
be the PISD’s ability to claim a * rebate’ of
$ 100 per student average daily attendance,
an amount estimated at $208,000.
The Option 4 plan also requires the
approval of the Texas Education Agency.
