ducted into the Cout Guard
Auxiliary, Flotilla 710, of U„ S,
Coast Guard District 8 during
swearing-in ceremonies con-
ducted Aug. 5 at the Palacios
Harbor Master’s Office.
Hew members induced were
Don Hyett, Scott Herrin,
Roberta Ripke and Warren
Pierce.
Officers of Flotilla 710 con-
ducting the ceremony were
Commander Jim Vass, Imme-
diate Past Commander Charles
Schon, and Vice-Commander
Keith Wisser. Palacios mem-
bers attending the ceremony
were Adrian and Beverly Wat-
son and Leon An this.
The new members bring the
total membership of Flotilla
710 to 11 in Palacios. 7> ob-
ject of the new members is to
attain sufficient numbers to
form a Coast Guard Auxiliary
Flotilla in Palacios which
would provide varying services
to the community and sur-
rounding area. A minimum of
15 members and 10 ves-
sels/radio base stations are re-
quired to form a Flotilla.

The Davie’ recently took over and remodeled the store
which durries a full line of groceries and features daily
baked goods and a deli counter. The Davis’ also own

hits 15.6%
during June
The unemployment rate for
Matagorda County jumped
more than two-percent during
June according to the latest
figures released by the Texas
Employment Commission
(TEC).
The June jobless rate hit
15.6% in June, the latest month
for which figures are available.
That was a significant increase
from the 13.4% recorded in
May. It was also above Die
