disease of livestock known to
man, was confirmed Tuesday

Navigation District No. 1,
seeking a cut of the present
channel to Palacios toadepth
of 18 feet, was notified that
Public Works Appropriation
Bill specified $4,000 for Gulf
Intercoastal Waterway Chan-
nel to Palacios study had been
approved by Congress and now
goes to the President for sig-
nature.
The first day of classes for
the 1960-61 term began today
for pupils of the Palacios In-
dependent School District.
By Wednesday morning,
1,042 bales of cotton had been
ginned at the Farmers Coop
Gin.
Coach Carr was pleased with
the Sharks tackling and pur-
suit of the ball in their scrim-
mage against Refugio Saturday
night.
Commissioners Court ap-
proved a $1,345,640 budget
Monday and reduced the tax
rate by 2 cents, from $1.05
to $1.03.
Coach and Mrs. Charles
Shreve were the parents of a
son born August 24.
Invitations were extended to
four Boat Clubs of the Lone
Star Boating Association to
enter the Free Labor Day Boat
Races sponsored by the Pa-
lacios Chamber of Commerce.

Wednesday to deny Palacios’
bid for a Water Control and
Improvement District.
Tennessee Gas Transmis-
sion Co. was stock - piling
pipeline near Palacios for use
in a line that will run from
South Texas to Louisiana. The
pipe was being shipped into
Palacios by barge from the
Eastern seaboard.
A total of 1865 bales of
