Rev. Laura Lewis guest
speaker at Presbyterian
services June 23rd-25th
The Reverend Laura Lewis
will be the special speaker at the
First Presbyterian Church of
Palacios beginning Sunday (June
23). She will speak at morning
worship on June 23 at 11 a.m
and at evening worship June 23-
25 at 7 p.m. She will focus on
the book of Ruth. Besides the
worship services, she will speak
at breakfast on June 24 and 25 at
7 a.m. and will focus on dif-
ferent versions of the Bible, in-
cluding the most recent one: the
New Revised Standard Version
(NRSV). Everyone is invited to
attend these sessions.
Laura was bom in Palacios to
Garland Brooking and Gladys
Trull and was baptized in the
First Presbyterian Church here.
After attending kindergarten
through third grade in Palacios,
she moved to Mississippi in the
1950's. Her education includes a
B.S. from the University of
Texas, an M.A. from Presbyte-
rian School of Christian Educa-
tion, an M.Div. from Austin

was okay. The problem is an ex-
haust leak which will be repaired
this week with a very expensive
part. It is still way cheaper than a
new R.V! My motorhomc is my
best friend and we arc aging
together. Either the R.V. is at
Jack Pierce's or 1 am at Dr.
Russo's. So it goes.
Now that the very hot weather
is here, we seniors sec articles
on being careful not to get over-
heated. I mentioned the fact to
my dance partner at the Senior
Citizens dance at the Silver
Wings Ballroom in El Campo.
Some eighty people were enjoy-
ing themselves on the dance
floor. The music was a lively
Polka. Of course, the dance hall
is well air conditioned and com-
fortable, but one can work up a
good sweat on a fast dance. It
must be good for us! Seniors arc
now coming from the Sealy area
and Port Lavaca. They say there
is no other dance like it for se-
niors around. Three live bands
take turns playing on Thursdays.
No liquor is brought in or served
and smoking is in an area away ;
from the people. Take 525 loop :
toward Edna, turn right at the |
hospital sign, on the left a short -t
way down is the Silver Wings. |
Come join us. We need more j

The church the devil warned you aboutl
Does God test our faith?
It is my firm conviction that He does not, because the Bible states
that God cannot be tested with evil nor will He test anyone.
Another minister told me one time that God was testing his faith to
see if he was obedient. My response to him was that James 1:3
says that God is not testing him, nor should he say that God is
the testor. Besides all that, the Bible states that God is omniscient
(all knowing of the past, present and future), so why would He
need to have knowledge ot what He already knows? The answer
is: He doesn't need to acquire knowledge that He already has, tor
He is truly omniscient.
