Miss Pearl Love Retires Prairie Center Home
After 38 Years With
Bay City School System
Miss Pearl Love, a member of
the faculty of the Bay City schools
for 38 years and who is now re-
tiring, was presented a plaque in
recognition and appreciation of her
years of teaching at the annual
teachers’ breakfast held recently
at the Tenie Holmes cafeteria.
Miss Love, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Love of this
city, began her teaching career in
1014. She taught six years in coun-
ty schools before going to Bay City
in 1920 to teach.

Demonstration Club
The Prairie Center Home Dem-
onstration Club held its regului
meeting on January 2nd at the
clubhouse with Mrs. John Jen-
sen and Mrs. Frank Stallard as
hostesses. There were seven mem-
bers and the County Home Demon-
stration Agent, Mrs. Dawn Duncan,
present.
The new officers for 1959 are:
President, Mrs. Frank Stallard;
Vice-President, Mrs. Leon Arlla;
Secretary, IMrs Cleddie Harvey;
Treasurer, Mrs. F. M. Jackson;
Council Delegate, Mrs, Niels Carl-
son; Alternate, Mrs. John Jensen;
Reporter, Mrs. Cleddie Harvey.
Mrs. Duncan gave the demon-
stration on “Growing Roses,” af-
ter which we adjourned to meet at
the home of Mrs. Leon Arlla on
January 16 at 2 p.m.
Delicious refreshments of cake,
cookies and coffee were served by
the hostesses.

ROSALIND RUSSELL, vivacious star of stage, screen and TV
is shown receiving the Golden Hat Award as the best hatted
woman in the world for 1958.
Adam Gimbel presented the award in behalf of the Millinery
Institute of America to Miss Russell who “is world renowned for
her chic,” he said. He is President of Saks Fifth Avenue.
Five hundred fashion editors voted her the award which was
designed by jeweler, Otto Grun. After receiving the award, Miss
Russell said, “Hatlessness is old hat!”
Last year’s winner was Princess Grace of Monaco.

family supper at the Emil Peterson
home Christmas Eve.

Given in marriage by her father,
the bride chose a gown of white
lace over taffeta and net. The dress
featured an empire bodice with an
oval cameo neckline and short
sleeves. The billowing skirt fell in
circular fullness to the graceful
ballet length. She carried a white
Bible and a bouquet of white ste-
phanotis.
The bride’s only attendant, Mrs.
Fred Thurmond of Houston, aunt
of the groom, wore a ballerina
length gown fashioned of red taffe-
ta and carried a bouquet of white
carnations.
Fred Thurmond of Houston, serv-
ed as best man and the bride’s
brother, Tommy Stewart was usher.
Following the ceremony, a re-
ception was held in Weimer Hail.
Mrs. Jesse Dismukes registered the
guests, Mrs. J. R, Barnhart served
the cake and Mrs. Harry Hulen
presided at the punch bowl. Mrs.
Guy Claybourn assisted in hostess
duties.
The couple left for a short wed-
ding trip, after which they will de-
part for Reno, Nevada, where the
groom is stationed with the air
force.
Mrs. Leroy Smith and Curtis ar-
rived in Houston by plane last
week from a four months visit in
Steinheim, Germany with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rhein
and other relatives.
Miss Judde Dominy, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Hayne Dominy of
Corpus Christi, is living here with
her grandmother, Mrs. S. B. Buffa-
loe, and attending school while her
mother is attending a beauty col-
lege.
