Dora Mae Hurta were held at
10 a.m. Friday, April 27, at
Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic
Church in Port Lavaca with the
Rev. Lawrence Siedel officiat-
ing.
Burial was in the Palacios
Cemetery.
Rosary was recited at 8 p.m.
Thursday in the Richardson
Funeral Chapel.
Born October 18, 1911 in
Dallas County, she died Tues-
day in Champ Traylor Memo-
rial Hospital in Port Lavaca. A
resident of the Deutschburg
Community for many years,
she had made her home in Port
Lavaca since the death of her
husband, Joe Hurta on Jan-
uary 26, 1976.
She is survived by three
daughters, Mrs. Dora Jean
Smith and Mrs. Georgia
Marek, both of Port Lavaca
Cindi Skalicky and Harold
Adams of Ganado were among
those honored at the Region III
Conservation Awards Banquet
held Thursday. Adams was
honored as the resident con-
servation farmer/rancher and
Cindi won third place in the

County for 1979 is Kimberly
Gerdes of Ganado. Renee
Sulak was crowned Miss Edna
and Christie Hafernick of
the office/administration facil-
ities portion of the Goliad State
Historical Park Swimming
complex. The contract calls for
the payment of $33,966.40 for
construction, architectual fees
and contingencies and will
provide an administrative of-
fice area, meeting room, rest-

day the City Council instructed
City Administrator Ted Wilk-

Survivors of Mrs. Beatrice
Lucille Bentler Wilkerson, who
died Saturday, April 21, in the
Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital
in Richmond, are one daught-
er, Lucille Pierce of Needville;
one son, Roy C. Wilkerson, Jr.
of Norfolk, England; four
grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren.
A former resident of Pala-
cios, she was born October 3,
1902, in Barton, North Dakota.

Funeral services for Miss
Elizabeth Ester Wilkerson will
be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday,
May 2, in the First Presby-
terian Church with the Rev.
Dick Stone officiating. Inter-
ment will be in the Palacios
Cemetery.
Daughter of the late Charles
Jake and Lena Augusta Miller
Wilkerson, she was bom Jan
uary 27, 1894, in Cuero. A
retired salesclerk, she had
been a resident of Palacios for
75 years and was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church.
She died Monday morning,
April 30, in Wagner General
Hospital.
She is survived by two
brothers, Charles T. Wilker-
son of Palacios and Vernon
Wilkerson of San Antonio and
a number of nieces and
nephews.

show” at the annual flower
show of the Tres Palacios
Garden Club Saturday. More
than 200 viewed the many
beautiful spring blossoms.

tives, descendents and friends
are invited to the reunion in
Blessing Sunday in celebration
of the 55th anniversary of the
town.

school gym. Eight bouts were
on the card with the battle
between John Gayle and Tom
Bolling headlining the enter-
tainment.
Two girl scouts, Ruby Mae
Schneider and Carla Ehlers,
won a trip to Camp Martha
Foster Madeley, near Conroe,
this summer for essays they
had written.
A drive was underway to
construct an elevator at the
Bay View Hospital.

John Lee Herbert were held
Friday at the Pilgrim Rose
Baptist Church.
The "Forty-Niners” was the
theme of the Junior-Senior
banquet Saturday night.

Col. Charles M. Craw-
ford, son of Mrs. E.G. Craw-
ford, was awarded the Bronze
Star on April 2 for meritorious
service in New Georgia, Solo-
mon Islands.
40 YEARS AGO
Fred Harris who had been
here as agent for the S.P. was
transferred to Edna and Mr.
Aldrich from the Valley was to
take his place.
Rev. M.H. Keen, pastor of
the Methodist Church, went to
Kansas City, Mo. to attend a
United Conference of the
Methodist churches.
New interest was given the
Gulf Coast of Texas when
three producing sands were
found in the Deutschburg area
of the Francitas Field of
Jackson County.
Com. Guy Johnson reported
work had been started on an
all weather road for the school
bus, known as Highway No.
28, a distance of 10 miles.

nounced for the Texas Baptist
Encampment at Palacios.
