FTA candidates
The Palacios High School
Chapter of Future Teachers of
America held its regular meeting
Oct. 8. The main topics were final
preparations for the upcoming
annual F.T.A. Halloween Carni-
val, and the election of candi-
dates for the District III Con-
vention to be held in November.
The members also voted to help
with the Speech Tournament to
be held on Nov. 17 in the Palacios
Fine Arts Building.
The Annual Halloween Carni-
val will be held Saturday from 6-9
p.m. in the Palacios High School
Cafeteria. The carnival is desi-
gned for children through the
fifth grade. There will be a
costume contest, a cake walk, a
carved pumpkin contest, and
numerous booths that the young-
sters can enjoy.
The two candidates chosen by
the club members for represen-
tation at the District III Con-
vention were Vicki Harvey and
Donna Harvey.
The meeting adjourned after
the high point earner for the
month of September, Chris Koc-
urek, was announced.
The Palacios Future Teachers
of America have chosen Donna
Harvey to run as state candidate
at the District III convention in
November. If Donna is elected in
November, she will then rep-
resent District HI in February at
the State Convention.
Donna, a sophomore, is a
two-year FTA member. She is
currently serving as president-
elect. She hgs served on the
Student Council for two years.
As a member of the JV
cheerleading squad, she was
head cheerleader. She is a varsity
cheerleader this year. Donna was
also a freshman representative
on the homecoming court last
year.
Donna shows a great interest
in choir. She has been a member
of the district and regional choirs
for two years and has received
many awards on both the district
and state levels for choir solo and
ensemble.
Vicki Harvey, a Palacios High
School junior, has been1 chosen
by the Palacios Future Teachers
of America to be a candidate at
the District III convention.
Vicki, a first year FTA mem-
ber, has chosen to run for District
III president. If elected, she will
serve as president for 1985-86
school year.
Accompanying Vicki is a long
list of accomplishments. She has
been a member of the Palacios
High School Band for three years
where she has served as a
twirler. She has also been in the
Palacios High School Choir for
three years. Vicki served as
freshmen class vice-president
and is serving as junior class
secretary this year.
The entire FTA organication
will campaign for Vicki at the
convention. They will put on skits
and pass out campaign material.
Chris Kocurek was recently
named September high point
winner by the Palacios Future
Teachers of America.
Chris, ajenior. has been active
in FTA for three years. As a
sophomore, he served as presi-
dent-elect and is currently serv-
ing as president.
Chris has had a wide range of
acting experience. He participat-
ed in the One Act Play his
freshman and sophomore years,
and he is currently participating
in the Fall Play.
Music is another interest to
Chris. As a member of the
Palacios High School Choir,
Chris went to state his sopho-
more year. He has made it to
regionals this year. Chris will
also be the main character in this
year's musical.
Chris is an active member of
the Catholic Church. He is a
member of C.Y.O. (Catholic
Youth Organization) where he
has served as vice-presdient and
is currently serving as presi-
dent. Chris has also participated
on the JV Sharks basketball
team.
