A fisherman passed this way____
Guadalupe Ochoa, Jr., a man of many names,
Captain Hairy, Granudo, The Wtdman. Primo Lupe and others. A man
always wanting to help anyone In trouble, be It friend or foe and he had
no toes. A amal man In size, but a big man In stature. A man whose
face and body is gone now, but a man whose memory will always
be on the GULP COAST.

hope to see Jackie Moore back
for the painting class on Fridays
when the BayFest is over.
Two guests were enjoyed very
much as eating companions
recently. Clayton Lee came for
the noon meal on an especially
good day for a turkey dinner
which was as good as the real
Thanksgiving meal. Attendance
was down that day because of
bad weather so on inquiring
about seconds, there was plenty.
We enjoyed him thoroughly for
the fun and laughter he brought.
The other guest, Willie Gillespie,
a friend of Pat Howarth’s, came
two days. Gillespie lives in
Houston but also owns a home in
Palacios. We had very good
conversation those two days and
Mrs. Gillespie wanted to be
shown our crafts. She plans to
retire to Palacios in a couple of
years.
Another date to remember is
Tuesday, Nov. 6, election day. A
quote in the Houston Post urging
people to get out and vote stated
Edmund Burke as saying ‘'evil
persists when good men remain
silent." So get out and vote for
those you feel best able to do the
job.
We are very glad to welcome
our Bayside Camper Park friends
back, they always bring fun to
the center. We will miss Leo and
Gen Dahlberg who are unable to
come this year. We are also glad
to see Jim and Alberta Neil back
in their usual place. All is well
with them!
The nutrition column by Dr.
John Mayer, “Food for Thou-
ght", in the Houston Post of Oct.
24 describes a new use for home
computers-keeping track of your
diet. A person can learn the
number of calories and amounts
of fat, vitamins, cholesterol, etc.
consumed in a meal. Though this
is the latest word io technology,
according to the article, it also
states that it may not always be
truly accurate as one cannot
always remember what was
eaten over a two or three day
period. Ideally fresh data should
be entered after each meal. In
addition, there are variants in
nutrients depending on growing
method, ripeness, cooking meth-
od and length of storage. For
example, did you know that a
potato stored for six months can
lose two-thirds of its vitamin C?
Appreciation goes this week
to: Mamie Wells, Fay Naul and
Margaret Knight for their craft
donations to the center craft fund
table at the Creative Handwork
Mart, making that table a
success; Mary Johnston for the
pears; and Palacios Building
Materials for the hot dog rolls
and mustard and catsup.

“Messiah” presentation
Rehearsals for a Dec. 23
presentation of Handel’s "Mess-
iah" will begin Sunday, Nov. 4.
Anyone who can read music and
is willing to attend rehearsals,
set for Sundays from 3-5 p.m. in
the First Presbyterian Church
sanctuary in Bay City is welcome.
The church is located at 2216
Avenue H in Bay City.
A goal of 100 voices has been
set for the first such production
locally in nearly a decade. Jim
Hagberg, music director of the
Brazosport Symphony Orchestra,
has volunteered his conducting
services. He holds a master’s
degree in conducting from Rice
University.
A 20-piece orchestra of pro-
fessional musicians is planned
fur the production, to be present-
ed at Keye Ingram Auditorium.
John Woolsey, chairman of the
committee organizing the event,
called the project “a marvelous
thing to give to the public around
Christmas.”
Woolsey has publicized the
event through the churches but
stresses that anyone is welcome,
whether or not he is a member of
a church.
A nursery will be provided
during rehearsals.
Solo tryouts have been set for
Saturday, Nov. 10 at First
Presbyterian Church, at a time to
be announced later.
For more information, please
call John Woolsey at 409-245-
4533.
