Center decorates for the holiday season,
BY PAT HOWARTH
Christmas dinner and party
will be held at the Center
Thursday, Dec. 18. All interested
people are invited, but please,
remember to make your reser-
vation ahead of that date.
Monday, Dec. 15 is the date for
the shopping trip in Bay City
sponsored by the 55+ Club of
the Memorial Hospital System.
Luncheon will he served at the
Service Center.
The Center Christmas tree is
now up and beautifully decorat-
ed. Decorations all around the
Center were done by many
willing hands. There will be a
prize for the best table decora-
tion again this year at the Dec. 18
event.
We are enjoying our winter
people and visitors. Bob and
Margaret Simons from Missouri
spent a week here before leaving
for Florida. They were with us
last year. Dr. Charles Gillespie
and his wife, Willie, came for the
noon meal, back to check on their
Palacios home, before returning
to duties in Houston. Someday
they will settle here permanent-
ly. they had just returned from a
wonderful trip to England.
It is time again to go over the
list of gifts appropriate for the
senior citizen. Your writer was
one of those seniors recieiving
that very large book, “Texas”
written by James Michener. It's
too big to hold comfortably. It has
b&en sitting on my coffee table
unread for a year. At least three
others known to me were blessed
with this gift from family last
year and the result is the same.
So here it is again taken from
“Dear Abby’s” column. We
don’t want dusting powder,
aftershave and cologne. No more
jewelry, etc. If we are readers,
the Palacios Library has so many
'good books, including “Texas”
which can be returned.
Good gifts are groceries, such
as a basket of cans of salmon,
tuna, chicken, ham, vegetables,
fruit, instant coffee, tea bags,
crackers, cookies and instant
soup mixes. Postal cards, sta-
tionery with envelopes and a
generous supply of stamps are
great along with some felt tip
pens. Greeting cards to have on
hand (with stamps) are good, too.
Money gifts are especially njee.
How about a long distance call, a
year’s subscription to a favorite
newspaper or magazine, or a gift
certificate to your hair dresser.
These are especially good gifts
for the senior. ,
Appreciation goes this week
to: Deena Harris, Christmas
cookies; Verdie Place, Thanks-
giving cake; City State Bank,
three poinsettia plants; Pearl
Sisco, cauliflower; and Marshall
Brister, coffee.
