capacity audience at the
fifth annual Football Ban-
quet Thursday night.
Matagorda County's rig
operations jumped from 15
the previous week to 27 last
week. One-fourth of the
rigs in the entire Gulf Coast
were operating in Mata-
gorda County, which has
been the coast’s most
active county throughout
1960.
Dr. Norman E. Runyon
was re-elected president of
his third term at a meeting
of the Board of Directors of
the Chamber of Commerce
Tuesday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Graff
celebrated their 40th wed-
ding anniversary Sunday
with a dinner at niton and

Burglaries in Orange,
Liberty and Houston were
cleared following the arrest
of three Houstonians by

For the 28th consecutive
year the Palacios Indepen-
dent School District has
been fully accredited by the
Southern Association of
Colleges and Secondary
Lollege
Schools.
Nearly 100 trees and
shrubs were planted on the
junior high campus Mon-
day.
Announcing the re-elec-
tion were James H. Selkirk,
tax assessor-collector, and
J.B. (Jack) Cole, sheriff.
At a meeting of the
Board of Commissioners of
Matagorda County Naviga-
tion District No. 1, the
question came up as to
whether or not Farmers
Canal Company had an
allotment of 30.000 acre
feet of water from the Trcs
Palacios River or an allot-
ment of 3.765 acre feet.

Search for missing Piper
Cub plane carrying Harley
Allen and Alvin “Ike"
F.ikenberg was still concen-
trated between Palacios
Point and the opening of
the Intracoastal Canal into
Matagorda Bay. The two
flyers had been missing
since Sunday night, when
they left Matagorda Island
about 7:15 p.m.
A 22 year old man was
arrested here Thursday
night after he represented
himself as an F.B.I. agent.
A public hearing on a
proposal to convert Mata-
gorda Navigaton District
No. 1 to a navigation
district operating under Ar-
ticle XVI, Section 59 of the
State constitution has been
called bv the board of
navigation and canal com-
missioners of. the district,
for Saturday, Jan. 27 at ine
chamber of commerce
building.
Thoroughly aroused over
the threat of proposed
legislation to close all Texas(
Bays against all forms of
commercial fishing and
shrimping, including bait
shrimping, members of the
Bay Fishermen’s Associa
tion of Texas and their
friends met Sunday even-
ing at the Chamber of
Commerce building in an
emergency session to fight
the proposed discrimina-
tory legislation.
