Birds of a feather, snacking together
FEATHERED TRIBES enjoy a mid-afternoon treat from Leonard Lamar. Most of the
birds are pigeons, but other species of birds, including a parakeet, show up every day to
peck up the seeds left for them. (Beacon Photo by Leita Hooper)_

“The GED certificate opens
die door to a continuing life-
long education,” said Kay
Lawson, PISD Community Li-
aison. “One of the biggest re-
wards to the student receiving
the GED is the personal sense
of accomplishment.”
A certified teacher is avail-
able for individual student help
on GED material. The students
work at their own pace to learn
the information.
Certified teachers also con-
duct the Vietnamese/English
and Spanish/English ESL
classes. As the student pro-
gresses in language acquisition,
they may move directly into
the GED program.
The Community Education
programs are pending the en-
rollment of a class of students,
plans are made and instructors
available for classes in com-
puters, CPR/First Aid, and con-
versational Spanish and Viet-
namese. For information on*
any of the programs, call 972- j
