der way here. A local insurance
man has a hobby of (Electing a
specimens of the various kinds
of native timber found in this
area. He has prepared samples of
wood from 69 such varieties and

FILTHY CITY DUMPS
CAN BE ELIMINATED
After Editor H. B. Fox exposed
the menace of the filthy city dump
at Taylor, a plan was inaugurated
to dispose of garbage and trash
by the “sanitary fill” method. Last
week it was placed in operation
as the climax to this year’s clean-
up campaign. Visiting jffficials from
neighboring cities came to see the
new method demonstrated.
San Saba begins operation this
week of its new “sanitary fill”
city dump.

“Ancient and Modern Necrom-
ancy, Alias Mesmerism and Hypno-
tism, Denounced,” is the subject
of the Less,cn-Sermon which will
be read in all churches of Christ,
Scientist, on Sunday, May 28.
The Golden Text is: “If God be
for us, who can be against us?”
(Romans 8:31).
Among the citations which com-
prise the Lesson-Sermon is the
following from the Bible: "Then
saith Jesus unto him, Get thee
hence, Satan: for it is written,
Thou shalt worship the Lord thy
God, and him only shalt thou
serve” (Matthew 4:10).
The Lesson-Sermon also in-
cludes the following passage from
the Christian Science textbook,
“Science and Health with Key to
the Scriptures'’ by Mary Baker
Eddy: “Sin and disease must be
thought before they can be man-
ifested. You must control evil
thoughts in the first instance, or
they will control you in the sec-
ond” (page 234).
SEEKING THE KINGDOM
By ROY L. LYON
SPIRITUAL CRIME
I heard from a missionary and
his wife the .other day. He said:
"We suppose that our field is more
or less typical of all the foreign
mission fields. It includes six states
of about 4,000,000 people. Ninety
per cent of them never heard the
Gospel.”
The ratio in his field is one mis-
sionary for each two million peo-
ple. Being a member of a church
of his denomination, I happen to
know that there are 27,000 preach-
ers serving 20 of these United
States, and every time one of
the important pulpits becomes va-
cant, there are at least five people
who are capable who desire to fill
the vacancy.
It seems to me that there is
more desire for position than for
preaching. If you are a preacher
and you resent this statement,
maybe you could use some prayer.
If I had a cure for cancer, and
kept that cure a secret, because I
wanted to make myself rich, no
one would be the least bit hesitant
about branding me as a criminal,
and taking steps to execute jus-
tice in my case. Yet every Chris-
tion (not just the preacher) has
the words of eternal life.
The telling of the Gospel to an
ignorant, lost, sick, and dying
world, is the pnly hope of its
salvation. Jesus said: “He that
hath the Son, hath life, but he
that hath not the Son hath not life,
AND THE WRATH OF GOD
ABIDETH ON HIM.” If you don’t
believe that statement of Jesus,
try to correlate the extermination
of 4,150,000 Jews during the last
war; ,crr the starvation of 16,000,000
people in North China during this
month of May, 1950.
If you are waiting around for
a "call” to the mission field, where
men have never heard, why do you
not open your ears to the “cm-
mand.” If Jesus commanded to go,
what right have you to stay? Un-
less God has shown you as a
Christian that you should stay
here where there is a Church on
every cxwner, and you are unwill-
ing to go where men need a sure
cure for sin, you are committing
spiritual crime.
