Meeting of the Athena Qub
was called to order by Marga-
ret Lawson, vice-president, in
the Athena Room at Palacios
Library, Monday, Sept. 18. A
prayer was given by Gertrude
Thompson, followed by Alleg-
iance to our Flag in unison.
Minutes of regular meeting
held on May 1, 1978, and
banquet meeting for members
and guests, held on May 15th,
were read by the secretary and
duly approved. Seventeen
members responded to roll
call.
It was announced that the
quarterly meeting of the Mata-
gorda County Federation of
Women’s Clubs was sched-
uled to be held October 11,
1978 in Blessing. The Library
and Community House of
Blessing will serve as hostess-
es, the program to be present-
ed by the Athena Qub, using
the theme "Pioneer Personal-
ities”. Blanche Claybourn was
elected as delegater to repre-
sent Athena Club at this
meeting.
Report of Ruth Partain, treas-
urer, reflected a balance of
$29.22 on hand.
The program entitled ‘‘Fine
Art” was brought by Martha
Foley and Margaret Lawson,
who had chosen as their
subject “Treasures of Tutan-
khamun”, and e x h i b i tion
which had been on display in
the Museum of Art in New
Orleans from Sept. 1977 to
early in 1978, and which was a
loan from the people of the
Arab Republic of Egypt to the
people of the United States in

ers of America were very busy
in the Rice Dish Round-up this
past week. Twenty-one entries
were taken to the Bay City
Service Center on Thursday,
September 21st, with the

Mr. and Mrs. L.V. “Jake”
Jacob spent last weekend in
Corpus Christi. “Jake” spent
Saturday afternoon and even-
ing receiving the Orders of the
Con.mandry Degrees in Ma-
sonry, which were attended by
and honoring R Furman Vin-
son, who is Grana Master of
the Grand Lodge of Texas A.F.
& A M. for 1978.
These are very inspiring
religious degrees, especially
the Knight Templar (32nd
degree), which is lifted right
out of the Bible and is very
beautiful, impressive and
touching.
They spent Sunday sight-
seeing and checking out points
of interest around the area.

Mrs. Elizabeth Young, Di-
rector of Learning Center in
the Bay City Schools, a guest
of Mrs. Foley and Mrs.
