'C ab in fever' sparks
center participation
Dates to remember: Tucs.,
Feb. 5, Project Council, 11:30
a.m. Tucs., Feb. 12, blood
pressure and blood sugar testing
10:30 a.m. Hearing tests will
also take place at the same lime.
Isn't the weather awful? Are
there any lucky people out there
not suffering from head conges-
tion, running nose, and cough
from the sinus drip? Those
night-time medicines to help the
above must be making a huge
profit these days as they have 25
percent alcohol in them that pro-
motes sleep. Sleep is I an to
come by with that nagging cough
as soon as one lays down. From
the complaints, it seems as if this
ailment is almost epidemic right
now!
Participation at the Center is
very good lately. Lots of "cabin
fever" I guess, with the need to
be with other human beings.
That is what we arc in business
to offer-to keep seniors from
being lonely and shut-in. Your
writer appreciates more than ever
the pleasure of eating such a
good meal in the company of
others. On the men's side of the
room, the war is being fought.
One gentleman is wearing his
World Ware II battle ribbons to
show he did his part when
called. The ladies' conversation
is a bid different. Craft ideas arc
exchanged, health worries dis-
cussed, the recipes for old lime
sinus treatment imparted
(snorting warm water and salt),
community events, etc.
At this writing, Monday a.m.,
it is really "blue Monday," but

Crime prevention talk given Alapha
Don Gullett, Palacios Chief of
Police, was the guest speaker for
the Alapha Club on their pro-
gram, "There's wisdom in re-
specting the law." He stated that
violent crime is just around the
comer in Palacios as well as the
large city. He gave a number of
lms that all should practice to
protect their homes as well as
their person. An audience par-
ticipation discussion followed on
various aspects of the law. Myra
Brhlik, Jeanninc Adams and
Marion Frances Simons were in
charge of the program.

A DETERMINED CROWD of eaters converged on the
Deutschburg Community Center last Saturday to chow
down on a seafood and rice salad and an array of
home-made desserts. New cooking facilities out back
helped the cooks keep up with the crowd as they
cooked fish, shrimp and oysters by the thousand.
